Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island Newsletter  |  March 31st, 2009

Greetings!

As the end of Lent draws close, the weather begins to thaw and the hope and renewal of Eastertide become so very tangible!

Soon and very soon we will have nice enough weather to play outside. Until then, here is another wonderful list of indoor offerings in our Diocese and Beyond.

Take special note of the Diocesan Budget Blitz dates this week. This is your chance to learn a little bit more about how your diocese uses its funds to provide you with ministry opportunities such as the ones in this newsletter. I'd love to see you all there!

Blessings,

Ruth Meteer

Creativity, Change, and Conflict Course
When: June 8-12, 2009 from 3:00-7:00 pm daily
Where: Location on the EDS campus TBA

Description: Creativity, Change, and Conflict, an Episcopal Divinity School mini-course taught by The Rev. Dr. William Kondrath, offers church and agency leaders an approach for creatively addressing and resolving conflict in their church or organization. "By integrating creativity into the course, we begin to have a "whole health" approach to interventions, rather than only dealing with problems," says Kondrath. "The place where we start is: What would a church look like, what would you see happening, if creativity-rather than liturgy or education or social justice is what characterized your church?  What would happen if we took Genesis seriously?  We are created in the image of God-and "in the beginning" God is creator."

Students will learn systems theory, methods for analyzing and intervening in congregations and agencies, and methods for addressing conflict creatively. The course will have a strong practical component with case studies and "lab" experiences. People will be invited not only to think outside the box, but to feel and act in ways that foster their own growth and the learning of the whole group.

2009 Episcopal Charities Campaign
Off and Running

The 2009 Campaign has been kicked-off in many of our parishes around the Diocese.  Speakers from our funded agencies were on hand in the churches to tell their story and how they assist those in need.  We are hearing some great reports from these speaking assignments.  If you church has not yet had an Episcopal Charities Speaker, arrangements can be made through the Charities Office.  They enjoy speaking to people in the parishes as much as we all enjoy hearing what they can do to help others.

Our pledges now total $87,285.  Our goal is $500,000.  This is very encouraging.  The campaign only began two weeks ago.  If you have not made your contribution, please contact your parish chairperson or contact the Charities Office.  Our theme this year is
"Open the Skies to a Better Tomorrow; Help Lighten the Burdens of the Less Fortunate."  You can help us get to the top and here's how ! !

PRAY DAILY.
Pray daily for our sisters and brothers in their situations of adversity, misfortune, poverty, despair, or loss.  Ask Jesus to lead your heart to a faithful, joyful, responsive and generous response.

GIVE GENEROUSLY.
- By sending your gift or pledge today. You can give to honor someone who is special to you, someone who has done something nice for you, or in recognition of an anniversary or birthday.  We will let that person know that you are thinking of them

ENCOURAGE FELLOW PARISHIONERS TO PARTICIPATE.
If you have not supported Episcopal Charities before, consider being a NEW PLEDGER by joining with over 6,000 households across Rhode Island.

BE JOYFUL AND THANKFUL!
Praise God for the healing work and ministries of Charities, for His blessings, miracles, and love that shine through our hands, our gifts, and our work together.

Any questions?  Contact the Episcopal Charities Office at 275 North Main Street, Providence, RI  02903, 274-4500, ext. 234 for Peggy and 233 for Jack.

Think of all the good your gift will do in meaningful ways that benefit those who are in fragile situations
and need help !

Now, more than ever, your gift will mean so for so many.
