Greetings!
Good morning!
Thank you all, for such a kind welcome to the Diocese. I am very excited to be here! Your former editor, Jessica Gates, has done us all a wonderful service in creating this newsletter to keep you informed about diocesan happenings, and I am so privileged to inherit her mission as she moves on to new adventures.
Here are are a few announcements:
Bishop Wolf and her husband, Tom Bair, departed yesterday for a visit to the Diocese of Ezo in the Sudan. After 5 days of travel, with the potential for many unforseeable delays, they will arrive as the guests of the Bishop of Ezo, the Rt. Rev. John Zawo and his wife Nancy. They will arrive back in Providence on December 29th.
Please keep Bishop Wolf and Tom, as well as Bishop John and his community in your prayers during this time.
***
The Rev. David Lucey has accepted a call as Rector of St. Michael's Church in Bristol. David and his family will arrive in Bristol around February 1st. David is currently the Associate Rector of Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest, IL, and has served in the Dioceses of New York and Maine.
***
The Bishop has appointed the Rev. John Pallard as Missioner for Coventry to provide consultation, direction and priestly oversight to the Episcopal Mission in Coventry (Christ Church and St. Matthias) beginning January 1, 2009. Fr. Pallard and his family have recently relocated to Rhode Island from Florida.
***
The Diocesan House will close for the holidays at the end of the Business day December 23rd, and re-open the morning of Monday January 5th 2009. Due to the office closure eRISEN will skip the December 31st issue and resume its normal publication schedule after the holidays, with a January 14th issue.
May your Advent be blessed,
Ruth Meteer Communications Officer

"Helping Rhode Islanders Cross the Bridge to a Better Life." Episcopal Charities at 93% of its Goal for 2008
Advent is underway! It is a time when we prepare for the coming of our Lord Jesus, as we recall "Emmanuel", God Incarnate dwelling among us. It is a time for preparing our hearts to meet the Risen Lord amidst our present ordinary circumstances - in the people we encounter on our own Rhode Island "roads to Emmaus".
We are grateful to all who have contributed to our work this year! As of the end of November, we have received $467,097 in pledges, or 93.4% of our $500,000 goal in grants to agencies who serve Rhode Islanders needing health services, eldercare, counseling, shelter, and food. With another $33,000 in donations, our commitments for 2008 grants can be met in full! Seeing this goal to its completion is important to the many agencies that receive support from Episcopal Charities. In the wake of a failing economy, their client lists and needs continue to increase even as their resources are in decline.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
PRAY DAILY. For our sisters and brothers in their situations of adversity, misfortune, poverty, despair, or loss. In this "season of giving", prayerfully consider how richly God has blessed you, and ask Jesus to lead your heart to a joyful and generous response. GIVE GENEROUSLY. Mail your gift or pledge today! You can also call Episcopal Charities with your credit card number. (Online giving is temporarily unavailable. We'll be back online soon!). Give for yourself or in honor of someone special. We will let the person know you are thinking of them. ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO PARTICIPATE. Consider being a NEW PLEDGER. Join the 4,000+ pledged households across Rhode Island. BE JOYFUL AND THANKFUL! Praise God for the healing work and ministries of Charities, and for His blessings, miracles, and love, which shine through our work together. Any questions? Contact the Episcopal Charities Office at 275 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02903, 274-4500, ext. 234 for Peggy and 233 for Jack.
