MUSIC THAT MAKES COMMUNITY

Join us at Trinity Wall Street - St. Paul's Chapel this spring to learn how to introduce a new and very ancient kind of music in your parish. "Paperless" music is taught and sung by memory. Making use of elements like repetition, round, and call-and response, it is accessible to the widest range of singers in any size congregation. These songs allow congregations to focus on listening to one another, being attentive to the Holy Spirit and singing from their hearts. Music that Makes Community is designed specifically for clergy, musicians, and lay people who want to learn how to lead music effectively without the use of hymnals or other printed materials. Our time together will be both practical and theoretical. Participants will learn the skills involved in selecting and leading "paperless" music, and will have the opportunity to practice these skills. Come join a diversely rich group of colleagues with expert leaders and experience a music that connects people to each other! Learn more about the conference and REGISTER at:

EPISCOPAL CONFERENCE CENTER

The Episcopal Conference Center (ECC), owned by the Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island, is located on 180 acres in the northwest corner of Rhode Island.  Our summer program consists of eight weeks of overnight camp; a different age range is hosted each week.

Each day begins and ends with worship, there are work projects that take up part of the day, then programs geared for each age, as well as swimming, archery, games, crafts, music, etc.  Each week has its own theme and volunteer adults to lead the program.  Campers arrive on Sunday and leave on Friday, giving staff a day off most weeks.

In addition to the overnight camp, we operate a day camp for the children of Olneyville, RI.  This is mostly off the property taking children to a variety of attractions in the Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut area.

There are positions open for both camps.  Successful applicants are expected to be at ECC for pre-camp training beginning June 19 through the end on August 16.  Some positions require applicants to report earlier to prepare for the summer.

City Camp Coordinator - This position is residential at ECC throughout the camping season.  The coordinator is responsible for training the Counselors-in-Training who will be staffing city camp.  Each session is 2 weeks long; four counselors are assigned to each session.  The coordinator transports the counselors in the ECC van each day, and acts as an assistant to the director.  The ability to speak Spanish is necessary for this job.  Salary $2,100, plus room and board.

HOLY LAND - MOVING FORWARD

The carrying out of the Resolution on the Holy Land approved at Diocesan Convention in 2006 will henceforth take place under the aegis of Social Justice Ministries chaired by Deacon Dorothy (Ricky) Brightman.  We will continue to sponsor and to distribute information about talks and pertinent events in the area (see announcement below) but also will begin engaging in concrete projects to provide humanitarian aid and market outlets for the people suffering most acutely from the effects of occupation and unrest. Among the projects that we have in mind are: pilgrimages to the Holy Land that combine tours of the religious sites with exposure to life on the ground and to Israelis and Palestinians working together for peace; sale of olive oil and olive wood carvings to provide markets for artisans whose normal outlets have been disrupted by border closings and checkpoints; grants for educational and medical aid; and political work to urge the US Government to play a more even-handed role in bringing both sides to the negotiating table in the framework of international law.

We need help to move forward.  If you would like to explore participation in any aspect of these projects, please contact Deacon Ricky Brightman at 401 781 9210 before 9 a.m. or after 7 p.m.

Don't forget that the Resource Center in the Diocesan Annex has an entire collection of carefully selected audio-visual and printed materials on the conflict in Israel-Palestine with an annotated bibliography to help orient users.  Please consult them.
