RECRUITING HELP FOR ACTION ON THE HOLY LAND
|
|
By decision of the Executive Committee of Diocesan Council, the committee that steered the first, educational phase of the Resolution on the Holy Land will become part of Social Justice Ministries chaired by Deacon Ricky Brightman. We will continue organizing and publicizing events that raise awareness about the conflict in Israel-Palestine and ideas about how to achieve a just and lasting peace. We have already asked the Rev. Bob Brooks of Grace Church-Providence, who is currently on a Sabeel Witness Trip to the region, to share an account of his experiences and observations sometime this spring. We will also be encouraging members of the Diocese, in groups and as individuals, to make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land with one of the organizations that combines a tour of the major religious sites with an exposure to the political realities on the ground and to both Israelis and Palestinians who are working toward non-violent resolution of the conflict. We also urge everyone to see the excellent DVD by Anna Balzer about daily life in the West Bank. It can stand alone as an educational tool, or we can arrange for a facilitator to lead post-viewing discussions (available through the Resource Center). The new focus of our mission is to channel what we have learned into action. Our objectives are to provide humanitarian relief to those in direst need and to encourage our elected representatives to press for a more balanced U.S. role in promoting a just and lasting peace. Specifically, we will be organizing fund-raising efforts to subsidize educational and medical relief projects carried out by ANERA, a venerable organization with forty years of experience in Palestine and Israel, and to provide economic aid to Palestinians through the sale of olive oil and olive wood carvings made by Christians in the West Bank. To carry out these projects, we will need help from individuals and parishes. We need to expand the human power available for planning and oversight and to carry out the projects. If you would like to know more about what needs doing and what role you might play, please call Priscilla Read at (401) 272 4003. A call doesn't commit you; it simply gets you more information. These are discrete projects that are easy to carry out and produce results that help real people in concrete ways. If you have the time and the inclination, you can make a difference in the lives of people who feel that the world has forgotten them.

RUN THE RESERVOIR |
|
Dear friend of the Trinity Food Closet
As Director of the first time event "Run the Reservoir 15K and Relay Walk", I am asking for your help to raise awareness and vital resources for the food closet maintained by Trinity Episcopal Church since 1999.
Since inception, the Food Closet has seen an increase in need every year measured by increases in the number served monthly from an initial five families to the current forty plus families. In some ways, the RI rural needy are more needy than their city counterpart because of their lack of a "network" of agencies directing them to find help. There are several levels of corporate support suggested to help the Food Closet fulfill its' mission through this event:
Main Course Sponsor * $2500 Name / Logo on the front of T-shirts given to (the first 300) participants Corporate logo on banner at start / finish line Corporate banner displayed at post race celebration Opportunity to include marketing item in runners packets
Side Dish Sponsor * $1000 Name / Logo on back of participants T-shirts Corporate banner displayed Corporate logo on course markers Opportunity to include marketing item in runners packets
Salad Sponsor * $250 Name / Logo on back of participants T-shirts Name / Logo on event Sponsor Board Opportunity to include a marketing item in runners packets
Appetizer Sponsor * $100 Name /Logo on back of participants T-shirts Name / Logo on event Sponsor Board
Thank you for your consideration. We hope that you will join us in this fight to end hunger in rural Rhode Island.
Sincerely, Milt Schumacher 401-647-3905
