Course: Justice, Reconciliation and Forgiveness

Taught by the Rev. Dr. Flora A. Keshgegian
Offered through Brown University Continuing Studies
6 Session(s)
Tues  7:00 PM - 9:00 PM,  February 5 - March 18 (no  session on February 19)
Location on Brown campus to be announced
Description: Past violence haunts the world in which we live and challenges present day political and social arrangements. Victims and their heirs call for justice and reparations in response to an unredeemed past. Others argue a positive future necessitates forgiveness and leaving past abuses behind.  Amid such a landscape, what do justice, reconciliation and forgiveness mean?  This course will explore these ethical demands, especially in particular cases, such as Brown University's response to its slave past, the legacy of the Holocaust and the work of South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Participants will learn about the roots of ideas about justice, reconciliation and forgiveness in Jewish and Christian religious traditions and ways in which to apply these concepts.

EPISCOPAL CONFERENCE CENTER

The Episcopal Conference Center (ECC), owned by the Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island, is located on 180 acres in the northwest corner of Rhode Island.  Our summer program consists of eight weeks of overnight camp; a different age range is hosted each week.

Each day begins and ends with worship, there are work projects that take up part of the day, then programs geared for each age, as well as swimming, archery, games, crafts, music, etc.  Each week has its own theme and volunteer adults to lead the program.  Campers arrive on Sunday and leave on Friday, giving staff a day off most weeks.

In addition to the overnight camp, we operate a day camp for the children of Olneyville, RI.  This is mostly off the property taking children to a variety of attractions in the Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut area.

There are positions open for both camps.  Successful applicants are expected to be at ECC for pre-camp training beginning June 19 through the end on August 16.  Some positions require applicants to report earlier to prepare for the summer.

RUN THE RESERVOIR
Dear friend of the Trinity Food Closet

As Director of the first time event "Run the Reservoir 15K and Relay Walk",
I am asking for your help to raise awareness and vital resources for the food
closet maintained by Trinity Episcopal Church since 1999.

Since inception, the Food Closet has seen an increase in need every year
measured by increases in the number served monthly from an initial five
families to the current forty plus families.  In some ways, the RI rural needy
are more needy than their city counterpart because of their lack of a
"network" of agencies directing them to find help.  There are several levels
of corporate support suggested to help the Food Closet fulfill its' mission
through this event:

Main Course Sponsor *  $2500
Name / Logo on the front of T-shirts given to (the first 300) participants
Corporate logo on banner at start / finish line
Corporate banner displayed at post race celebration
Opportunity to include marketing item in runners packets

Side Dish Sponsor *  $1000
Name / Logo on back of participants T-shirts
    Corporate banner displayed
    Corporate logo on course markers
Opportunity to include marketing item in runners packets

Salad Sponsor *  $250
Name / Logo on back of participants T-shirts
Name / Logo on event Sponsor Board
Opportunity to include a marketing item in runners packets

Appetizer Sponsor *  $100
Name /Logo on back of participants T-shirts
Name / Logo on event Sponsor Board

Thank you for your consideration. We hope that you will join us in this
fight to end hunger in rural Rhode Island.

Sincerely,
Milt Schumacher
