Greetings!

eRISEN has gone through a few experimental changes over the last few issues. We use a content management system called Constant Contact to manage the email and provide the templates. The majority of you are receiving your Diocesan email without a problem. Some of you, however, are getting emails that are truncated (cut off) due to their length. This could be due to your own email system editing the info that is coming in OR it could be a glitch through Constant Contact. Either way, eRISEN has grown so large that very few people will have the patience to read through all the info that is included.

That means that info submitted for publication must be short and concise. What, Where and When w/ a brief intro. I will be happy to link to your parish website for people seeking more information.

Updates:

Diocesan Convention is this Friday & Saturday at the Biltmore Hotel in Providence.

RISEN

magazine should already be in your hands, or will be shortly. The focus of this issue is our Diocesan Convention.

The next issue of RISEN magazine is scheduled for mid-December. It has a working theme of "Episcopal Church 101."

Peace,

Jessica Gates

OPPORTUNITIES

Parish Prayer Partners (PPP) is a new program designed to support the Episcopal Ministry at the Adult Correctional Institution.   We are seeking small teams of individuals from parish and church groups throughout the diocese who will commit to praying for the needs of a partner inmate who has recently completed a baptismal; or spirituality course.  The team will encourage the spiritual growth of the inmate partner through correspondence and prayer, working as a team.

Requirements are simple - a willingness to keep a four month commitment, dependability and consistency, a non-judgmental attitude toward inmates, a daily discipline of prayer.  Teams can be as small as 2 or 3 people; each team must have a designated leader who can attend a mandatory 2 hour training session with Chaplain
Joyce Penfield and who will serve as a contact person for the group.  The training session will hopefully occur within the next few weeks (late November, early December), depending on the interest and availability of groups and leaders, with the full program starting in the new year.

If you would like to be a part of this ministry or have questions please contact Rev. Dcn. Dorothy 'Ricky" Brightman, at St. Luke's Church,
East Greenwich, 401-884-4116, stlukeseg.deacon@verizon.net.

Here's how you can donate.

CONFLICT IN THE HOLY LAND

Conflict in the Holy Land: Join in Policy Development

The Resolution on the Holy Land approved at Annual Convention in 2006 called upon the Diocese to engage in a year of study of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with a view to formulating policies for constructive involvement in the search for a just peace.  Although the educational process is never at an end, we have completed our series of talks. It is now time to begin the discussion out of which policy proposals will come.  We invite all members of the Diocese to participate.

On November 6 at 7 p.m. in the Cathedral of St. John in Providence we will hold a first meeting to brain-storm about the ways in which we might contribute to easing the humanitarian crisis and building peace. We are inviting a few individuals from outside the diocese to help generate ideas.  In order to plan, we need to know who would like to participate in this gathering. We also would like to hear from anyone who is unable to come on November 6 but wishes to be part of the discussion.  By Friday , November 2,  please contact Priscilla Read by phone (401 272 4003) or email (priscillaread@cox.net) if you wish to be involved.
