MILES FOR HUNGER:
St David's on the Hill and Church of the Ascension, Cranston, announce the "Miles for Hunger", a virtual walk across the country, to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the "Coast to Coast" walk. Two men walked from Seattle, Washington to Providence, RI to raise awareness and funds for hunger, challenging others in proportion to the effort and sacrifice of the "feet".
In May 1987, an ambitious group of individuals embarked upon an unprecedented journey of faith, hope, and charity. Jack Kirkconnell and Dan Whipple, two very ordinary men, made their way across the country, leaving their families, spending four months on the road, and walking over 3,600 miles.
Now, twenty years later, instead of packing up, leaving our families, walking for 112 days, through 300 cities and towns, and 19 states, we are asking you to "walk" from the comforts of home. Donations are being accepted at www.milesforhunger.net. For every $20 raised, we will "walk" one mile.
The "walk" will end with a dinner celebration, to be held at the RI Community Food Bank on October 20, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased by contacting Sara Clarke at 401-447-6419, or by visiting www.milesforhunger.net.
