St. Luke’s East Greenwich Features Good Friday Taizé Service

Experience Taizé at St Luke's Episcopal Church.

An ecumenical Taizé service will be held Good Friday, April 6 2007 at 7pm, featuring St. Luke’s Canterbury and St. Cecilia choirs, with special guest instrumentalists. St. Luke’s Taizé service, an experience which has been described as “magical”, “transforming”, and “not to be missed” by past attendees, has become a favorite annual event of the East Greenwich area Christian community during Holy Week.

Taizé is a service of contemplative prayer and meditation, in the style of the monks of the village of Taizé, in Burgundy, France. Prayers, Psalms, readings and silent prayer alternate with congregational song, led by the choirs and accompanied by musical instruments.

The service will be officiated by the Rev. Craig R. Burlington, assisted by clergy of the community, with music direction by Priscilla Adams Rigg, Music Director. Located at Pierce & Church Streets, East Greenwich, St. Luke’s is handicapped accessible and ample parking is available.

For more information contact St. Luke’s at 401-884- 4116, or www.stlukesegri.org.

Youth & Young Adult Events
The All Saints' Memorial Church September 11th Scholarship
This annual scholarship was established by All Saints' Memorial Church as a response to the events of September 11, 2001.

Thousands of people had their lives shattered by the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. The effects will be felt throughout the world for years to come. Such a tragedy should never again occur, and the parishioners of All Saints' Memorial Church, like all people of conscience, must work to make certain that it does not. Since our parish also feels it must minister to the wider community, it has established a scholarship to accomplish both purposes.

Each year the church will award a scholarship of $500.00 to a graduating high school senior. Any student who is a parishioner of an Episcopal congregation in the Diocese of Rhode Island may apply. Applicants for this scholarship must plan to attend and be accepted in a college or university for the following academic year.

If you have internet access and Microsoft Word, the application can be downloaded from our website at www.allsaintsmemorial.com. You can also request an application by calling the parish office at 751-1747. Applications are due by April 1, 2007

News from Episcopal Charities
Episcopal Charities Fund Update

The 2007 Episcopal Charities Annual Campaign is officially underway. Representatives from agencies funded by Episcopal Charities have served as speakers in parishes throughout the Diocese. We are getting rave reviews on their speaking assignments and the enthusiasm and support they have brought to the campaign. They can be very inspiring as they bring the message of how Charities contributions help them do their work in Rhode Island Communities.

Pledges and gifts now total $125,000 from generous donors in just two weeks! We are well on our way to a goal of $525,000. We thank all our volunteers and donors for their great work and commitment to Episcopal Charities.

If you have not make your contribution to Episcopal Charities, please think about all the good your donation will bring to thousands of your neighbors throughout Rhode Island. They minister to people in shelters, soup kitchens, nursing home, and health centers. They aid the elderly, unemployed, abused and those at-risk. And, there’s so much more!! The 114 agencies supported make beautiful thing happen in your community every day to help people prepare for a better live.

You can make your contribution by contacting your parish representative or you can donate online at www.episcopalrr.org/charities or download a donation form. The mailing address is Episcopal Charities Fund, 275 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02903 or contact the office at 274-4500.

WHY GIVING TO THE EPISCOPAL CHARITIES FUND IS THE BEST WAY TO HELP THOSE IN NEED:

• Every dollar donated is used to address the critical issues of our time. Fund raising costs are covered by a special endowment.

• We do the research – so you know your money is going to worthwhile causes and well run agencies.

• We follow up to ensure that grants are being used effectively and as intended.

• The majority of agencies supported are small; our grants have a significant impact on their ability or offer specific services and programs.

“Beautiful things happen when, like snowflakes , we join together.”
