U2 Eucharist - Friday Dec. 1st

Grace Church in Downcity Providence will observe World AIDS Day, Friday December 1st with the U2 Eucharist at 7:00pm.

The U2 Eucharist is joyous and exciting with the distinctive recorded music of the Irish Rock Band, U2, highlighting the solemn service and traditional worship in the classic beauty of Grace Church.

The U2 Service welcomes and includes all ages and faiths and engenders a spiritual relationship among participants in the Church. The sense of relationship extends far, united and dedicated to the mission of eradicating poverty, disease and hopelessness throughout the world. The goals were established by the inspired ONE Campaign led by Bono, leader of U2.

Grace Episcopal Church is located at the corner of Westminster and Mathewson Streets in Downcity Providence. For more information, call 401-331-3225

The Episcopal Calendar for RI
November 22nd, 2006
Happy Thanksgiving!
This holiday has always been my favorite, and not just for the excuse to overeat. My mother has a tradition of hosting all “wayward souls” that don’t have a table to gather around. I have continued that tradition. During our time at seminary, we ended up with (on average) twenty or more people in our tiny apartment. It was chaos, but welcome chaos. This year, it is a manageable eight. The act of gathering around a table is almost a lost art in American society, so I relish the opportunity to rekindle the habits and traditions of those that came before us.

And as usual...

Do you know someone who needs to be getting eRISEN? Forward this email on and encourage them to sign up!

Each eRISEN is divided in to segments. You will always find Diocesan, Parish, Youth and General events along with occasional information from the Resource Center and Deployment (Clergy updates). If there is available room, you may also find interesting articles. Would you like to see something in eRISEN that is currently not featured? Let us know by emailing risen@episcopalri.org.

This is YOUR calendar tool. We send out eRISEN twice a month to keep you updated on current events happening around you. Pass it on!
For information on how to submit events (and the next deadline), see the bottom of this email.

Peace,
Jessica Gates

The All Saints' Memorial Church September 11th Scholarship
This annual scholarship was established by All Saints' Memorial Church as a response to the events of September 11, 2001.

Thousands of people had their lives shattered by the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. The effects will be felt throughout the world for years to come. Such a tragedy should never again occur, and the parishioners of All Saints' Memorial Church, like all people of conscience, must work to make certain that it does not. Since our parish also feels it must minister to the wider community, it has established a scholarship to accomplish both purposes.

Each year the church will award a scholarship of $500.00 to a graduating high school senior. Any student who is a parishioner of an Episcopal congregation in the Diocese of Rhode Island may apply. Applicants for this scholarship must plan to attend and be accepted in a college or university for the following academic year.

If you have internet access and Microsoft Word, the application can be downloaded from our website at www.allsaintsmemorial.com. You can also request an application by calling the parish office at 751-1747. Applications are due by April 1, 2007

Of Interest to All
SEWANEE, TN-- The Doctor of Ministry Program of the University of the South begins its thirty-third year this summer.

The Doctor of Ministry program is one of the few in the U.S. which operates only during the summer months. This means that clergy can participate in the program without a major interruption in their parish responsibilities. It affords an opportunity for students to study in an Episcopal seminary in a university setting.

The program stresses the relationship between the practice of ministry, and biblical, historical, and theological knowledge. A Master of Sacred Theology program focusing on research skills is also available. The program usually takes three or four summers to complete.

The D.Min. program consists of 30 semester hours. Students are required to complete a major project, which is a study of some dimension of one's ministry or the ministry of the church. Financial aid is available.
For full information, see the Sewanee website and look under Academics & Advanced Degrees:

The George Hunt HELP Center is a drop in center for the poor and homeless in the metropolitan Providence area. We are located at 121 Mathewson Street, right down the street from PPAC and across the street from the Mathewson Street Methodist Church. Each morning we offer a safe gathering space, coffee, clean used clothing, personal commodities, information on where to go for further help – and friendship. We are considering extending our hospitality and offerings into the afternoon hours - a time when our guests have few safe spaces to gather.

The HELP Center will celebrate our 14th year of operation with an Open House on Thursday, December 14, from 12 noon until 1:30 pm. We welcome past, present, and future contributors as well as people who might want to know what the HELP Center is all about. If you cannot attend and would like to have more information about this program, contact our Chairperson, Deacon Ricky Brightman at dbrightman@mosesbrown.org.
