The Episcopal Calendar for RI

October 25th, 2006

|
|
Greetings!
Two very big events are coming up for Episcopalians
in RI.
- The 216th Annual Convention of the Diocese of
Rhode Island will take place this weekend, Oct 27th -
28th.
- The Right Rev'd Katherine Jefferts Schori will take
her position as the 26th Presiding Bishop on Nov
4th.
If you are attending convention, please stop by and
see us at our display
table.
Not able to get tickets to the investiture? Join the
club! Or just join us for the live webcast at the
Diocesan House
(see details under Diocesan Events).
Autumn RISEN is online! This will be the last
time you see RISEN in a newspaper format. Starting
with the next issue (anticipated in early December)
RISEN will be in magazine format and will be published
four times a year.

Currently, eRISEN is divided in to segments. You will
always find Diocesan, Parish, Youth and General
events along with occasional information from the
Resource
Center and Deployment (Clergy updates). If there is
available room, you may also find interesting
articles. Would you like to see something in eRISEN
that is currently not featured? Let us know by
emailing risen@episcopalri.org.
This is YOUR calendar tool. We send out eRISEN
twice a month to keep you updated on current
events happening around you. Pass it on!
For information on how to submit events (and the
next deadline), see the bottom of this email.
Peace,
Jessica Gates

dramatic era in Scottish history, the half-century
following the 1746 Battle of Culloden during which the
Highland Clans were decimated by the English army,
and following which Scots were forbidden, under dire
penalty, to wear their traditional tartans.
Nevertheless, the Highlanders and their clergy
managed to dodge the edict by bringing small
patches of tartan to church (the Kirk, in Scots
parlance) which, with crafty manipulation of their
prayers, the ministers managed to bless. This is
always an especially dramatic and moving service.
Please mark your calendar today, and plan to attend
on November 12th at 4pm. If you would like your clan

Michael’s Church office at 253-7717 by November

Second Annual BOOK EXCHANGE will be held
during the Convention on
October. This will benefit the George Hunt HELP
Center in Providence. Books
should:
1) be attractive and in good condition
2) have something to do with
spirituality - church history - theology - scripture -
Christian education -
pastoral care - congregational development,
pertinent biographies, etc.,
3) be
something you might like to own yourself.
This is not a yard sale but a way to
pass on and share books you have enjoyed.
Books should be dropped off at the
Cathedral between October 1 and October 23.
Clearly label them for the HELP
Center to the attention of Ricky Brightman. If you
have questions or might
need help getting books to the Cathedral leave a
