When it comes to prime and promotional labels, first impressions are vital. You want images that pop and attract the attention of your target audience. What better way to do that than by adding holographic cold foil to your label!

McCourt's cold foil process is inline; the foil is applied at the same time we print. It is faster and less expensive than hot stamping. The benefit of cold foil is that it only requires another printing plate and does not require an expensive tool to be purchased as when using hot foil. We simply apply a special adhesive to the label and laminate the foil to it. The result is a beautiful, sparkling, and eye-catching piece!

In addition to holograms, cold foil is available in a wide variety of other colors and designs, and can even be overprinted to create unique effects! For more information, contact your McCourt representative by email or at 800-458-2390 today.

QR Codes:  Are They Here to Stay?

QR codes, or quick response barcodes, are showing up all over the place these days. You've probably seen them in magazines, on your shampoo bottle, or maybe even on a billboard. These codes for smartphones, which serve as a bridge from print to web, are definitely on-trend. This makes some of us in the business world wonder, "Are QR codes going to stick around and become a viable marketing/promotional tool? Or, are QR codes just the current in fad, destined to be out in the blink of an eye?"

Let's look at some statistics:

  • 6/19/11, LA Times - "The number of QR scans recorded by the industry's leading code maker has soared to 2 million a month, nearly double the rate last year, and up from 80,000 a month in 2009."
  • 8/12/11, comScore, Inc. - A recent study by this company found that in June 2011, 14 million mobile users in the U.S. scanned a QR code on their mobile device.
  • The Nielsen Company predicts that half of all Americans will own a smartphone by the end of 2011. Most smartphone devices now have QR readers pre-installed.

These numbers are pretty compelling. However, here are a few points about these 2-D matrix barcodes that are possibly more convincing:

  • It's FREE to generate QR codes online. And, it's FREE to track scans.
  • Pepsi, The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, Target, Home Depot, City Harvest of NYC, Calvin Klein, U.S. Marine Corps, and Starbucks are just a few examples of organizations using them with success.
  • Creative and inspiring ideas for incorporating QR codes into your marketing and promotional campaigns are endless. Doing a Google search on "QR Code Ideas" brings up about 9 million results!
    • For instance, RE/MAX real estate broker, Justin Kiliszek, says on his blog (kiliszekrealestate.com), "We now have QR Codes for all of our listings that allow consumers to scan them with their smartphones and see detailed property information for the listing such as the walk score, Google Maps with street views, school information and much more right from the Yard Sign, Property Flyers, Postcards and other places where it was never possible before."
