APPEALING - Part #4
Concept

The next aspect of APPEALING is so important it warrants its own newsletter. It’s Integrity. The more I explore life, love, success and spirituality, the more I realize that this aspect provides the fertile soil that allows your dreams to grow. Without it, you don’t get very far – at least not in an authentic, life-affirming way.

Discussion

The dictionary defines Integrity as: adherence to a code, an unimpaired condition, the state of being whole and complete. And in love and life, what does this mean?

On a very basic level, it means you can be trusted to do what you say you’re going to do. You show up on time, tell the truth, pay your bills, do the best you can, take care of yourself and others. You live according to your standards and values. Bottom line, your life works.

On a deeper level, Integrity is about honoring -- honoring and understanding that what you think, feel, say and do has an impact on your life and on the lives of everyone (and everything) around you. Respect for the fact that you are the creator of your results and that your word is the most important asset you have. It is a mindfulness to boundaries, details, what’s working and not working, so that movement is always forward and intentionally toward the state of being “whole and complete”.

One thing to consider is that Integrity is rarely 100% attainable. Just like housework, there’s no way to ever really get ahead. At best, you’re just maintaining order. But that’s ok, because in a paradoxical sort of way, you have integrity if you are managing your integrity. The intention begets the result.

Coaching

This concept is best understood when explored in real time. Here are some ways to do just that.
  • House, car, office are clean– clutter in your environment equals clutter in your mind. It zaps energy and attention, whether you realize it or not.
  • Checkbook is balanced, finances are handled.
  • Projects are finished or headed that way (Be honest – saying “I’m working on it” when you haven’t touched it for months doesn’t qualify.).
  • Health is managed to the best of your ability.
  • Your relationships are “complete” (no withholding, no dishonesty, no blaming, everything has been said, love is present, no gossiping).
  • Responsibility-is-you – keep returning to yourself as the source of your results (problems, solutions, failures and successes).
Parting Thought

I like to describe Integrity like this: Every out-of- integrity item in your life is like throwing an anchor overboard and wondering why you’re not getting anywhere. Managing your Integrity is like lifting those anchors out of the water and sailing away full-speed ahead! Now wouldn’t that be APPEALING!?!
