  • It's Not Just Me Telling You to Write Better!

One of my favorite bloggers, Gini Dietrich, recently posted a blog near and dear to me: "Six Tips for Better Business Writing" (here's the full blog). I was happy to see many of the things I teach on her list (and was very happy to share it with my students). Do read the blog and the comments (you'll even find one from me in there). Here's the list:

    1. Always use spell check.
    2. Cut down on text slang.
    3. Know the difference between your and you're.
    4. Same for its and it's.
    5. The word "that" is rarely necessary.
    6. Stop using the word "like."

    The Definition of Cute
    Mya the kitten

Meet Mya -- our new kitten. It's been just over a year since we went back to being a one-cat household. We knew that Charley (who just turned four) needed a friend. And then Mya came into our lives.

Her full name is Maiko, which means "dancing girl" in Japanese. And she does dance and hop and run around. Charley is getting used to her, even though her favorite toy seems to be his tail. Everyone who sees her photo or meets her (like everyone at the vet) says, "She's so cute!" So knowing that kittens and cute and the Internet go together, who am I to not share her with all of you!

    Changes Coming to Constant Contact

Book of the Month . . . Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake
    Book cover for Likeonomics

I have been reading and loving Anna Quindlen for years. It started twenty-five years ago, with her column for the NY Times, "Life in the 30's", obviously written after spying on my life. And it's continued over the years.

Now in her "memoir", Anna looks at where we are now, how we got here, and where we are going. She shares what she thinks is right and wrong with the world. Plus we get to catch up on how and where her family is. I can still see myself in her writing -- It's nice to know we still share so much in our lives.

Quote of the Month: "Joy seems to me a step beyond happiness -- happiness is a sort of atmosphere you can live in sometimes when you're lucky. Joy is a light that fills you with hope and faith and love." -- Adela Rogers St. John
