  • Five Clients You Don't Want to Work For

    We all need clients, but do we need all clients? I read a great blog "The Five Clients You Should Avoid Like the Plague" by Patricio Robles, a tech reporter at Econsultancy. He lists and describes them:

    • the fisherman -- tries to get lots of information up-front, without paying for it;
    • the mime artist -- isn't an effective communicator, which means you don't really know what he wants;
    • the deluded -- is out of touch with reality, which means you'll never be able to deliver what she thinks she wants;
    • the spouse -- needs constant attention, becoming a fixture in your life;
    • the cheapskate -- loves a bargain and is a master at scope creep.
    Read Patricio's blog to learn more about how to recognize and avoid these clients.

    Remember, if you're working for one of these clients, you won't have time to work for a client you really like.

    On the Road Again

    Tudo bem? (How's it going, in Portuguese) I'm off on another adventure -- my first trip to Brazil. We have some very good friends who live in São Paulo; my husband Mike has visited them several times. This time I'm going too. So, by the time you read this, I'll be in Brazil, where it's Summer! (That means it's warm and there's no snow -- sorry, I'm not going to apologize.) Check my Blog (link is on the right), I will try to post some stories and photos while we're there.

    Book of the Month . . . Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing

    If you haven't met Grammar Girl, Mignon Fogarty, yet, you're missing a great resource. Whether it's her books, her e-letters, her podcasts, her tips, or her tweets, here is a fun way to make your writing better. Mignon answers all of those grammar questions that bother us and make it so hard to write (e.g., Where should I put the comma? Is it affect or effect?) She calls this book "a practical guide for everyday writers" and goes on to say, "My philosophy is that learning about language should be fun." And the book is fun!

    Quote of the Month: "Stop living for what's around the corner and start enjoying the walk down the street." -- Grant L. Miller (from an Honest Ade label)
