  • Happy New Year!

I look forward to seeing you all in 2011. Be on the look-out for the newsletter as I have lots of great books to tell you about, social media news to share, and more. Wishing you and yours a wonderful new year filled with good health, peace, and joy!

    My Favorite Android Apps

There are lots of lists out there of Top Ten Apps for Androids &/or iPhones. Most of those Apps are not on my phone; here are the Apps that I like. (I've only included links where there might be a question as to which app it is; depending on your phone, you can find these on-line, in the Android Market, or, sometimes, in iTunes.)

Key Ring -- the place to store all of your loyalty cards. My wallet is now thinner because I'm not carrying the cards around (and you've probably read why you shouldn't keep them on your real key ring).

Continental Airlines -- on a recent trip, I knew the incoming plane had landed and was taxiing to the gate before it was announced. You can even have your boarding pass on your phone.

The Weather Channel -- for both local and travel cities, great way to keep up with the weather.

Maps (from Google) -- all the joy of Google Maps but on your phone; be sure to adjust the volume for the spoken directions, the voice can be a little scary.

QR Reader (QuickMark) -- have you noticed those funny new bar codes? They're called QR codes. This is my favorite QR reader -- and I love the little squawk it makes when it has successfully read the code.

Twitter -- if you're going to Tweet, then you want to download Twitter for your phone; it makes it easier to follow the Tweets (and to do fun things like post photos).

Foursquare -- still not entirely sure why I'm doing this one, but I did get a 10% off coupon at Radio Shack. So, count this as one of the fun ones.

A few honorable mentions: American Express, Mashable, NYTimes, ShopRite, and Wells Fargo. What Apps are on your phone?

Book of the Month . . . Content Rules
    Personality Not Included

As a writer, and creator of content, I was thrilled to read C.C. Chapman and Ann Handley's new book Content Rules: How to Create Killer Blogs, Podcasts, Videos, Ebooks, Webinars (and More) that Engage Customers and Ignite Your Business. So, what is content? "Content is a broad term that refers to anything created and uploaded to a web site: the words, images, tools, or other things."  C.C. and Ann make three promises at the start of the book: not to be boring; to give some context; and to draw plenty of road maps. They succeed at all three. The book is easy and entertaining to read; it's well-grounded; and it provides rules, how-to's, and case studies. This book is a must as you work on marketing your business. (And don't forget, if you come up with the ideas for your content but have trouble finding the right words, I can help you!)
