Did you catch the recent broadcast of the National Spelling Bee on ESPN?  And the new hit on Broadway is the musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.  For business professionals, however, spelling has always been important.  If you "Google" spelling, you will find lots of great web sites with spelling quizzes and other guides to help you improve your spelling (how do you think the spelling bee champs practice?)  As a start, here are 15 commonly misspelled words.

     2. calendar
     3. commitment
     4. embarrass
     5. existence
     6. foreign
     7. humorous
     8. occasion
     9. privilege
    10. receive
    11. recommend
    12. rhythm
    13. separate
    14. success
    15. weird

    Doing Business in the Summer

Do you stop calling clients during the summer because they might be away?  If you are working, don't you think your clients or potential clients might be too?  Adrienne Zoble, author of The Do-able Marketing Plan: Six Steps to an Improved Bottom Line (www.azobleassoc.com), says summer is a great time to reach your clients.  Because the pace is slower, they have more time to meet with you for coffee, lunch, or whatever.  Even if you just send out a mailing, your clients are more likely to read it and remember it.  So get out there and market!

    Summer Fun

What am I doing this summer to have fun?  Paddling!  Now that the weather and water are warmer, I will be out in my kayak.  Favorite places to kayak include Harriman State Park, the Hudson River, Monksville Reservoir (Wanaque), and the Hackensack River.  Vacation will take us up to the Adirondacks to paddle on Lake Champlain and Lake Placid and down the Shore to Long Beach Island.  For information about kayaking in New Jersey and New York check out these links:  Hackensack River Canoe and Kayak Club, Delaware & Hudson Canoe & Kayak Club, and Jersey Shore Sea Kayak Association.  And let me know if you'd like to join me for a paddle!
