Innovative Lost & Found Program Hastens Pet/Owner Reunification in NYC

The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), and Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C) have joined forces to create a new lost-and-found program to ensure that lost dogs and cats are returned to their owners. This innovative program harnesses the power of trained volunteers and technology to track down lost pets and speed their return to anxious owners.

The new pilot program launched July 2, just in time to be in place for the Fourth of July, a holiday traditionally marked by a spike in lost pets, thanks in part to the number of frightened pets who go rogue during fireworks displays.

"We made sure we always had food and shelter for the many strays we brought home." Fierro, a transport driver for Wheels of Hope, a program of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, has the same philosophy. After a long and successful career owning restaurants, Debbie has devoted her life to saving animals.

Toyota - Big Apple Giving Toyota of Manhattan - Big Apple GivingYour Vote Saved Lives!

This spring, we were honored to be one of three non-profits chosen to compete in Toyota of Manhattan's Big Apple Giving contest. Facebook users were asked to "like" Toyota of Manhattan and vote for which group they would like to win $2,500. After sustaining a large lead since March, we had a surprise vote challenge from another group on July 3, the last day of the contest, but our dedicated supporters pushed us over the top to win by only two votes! We can't thank Toyota of Manhattan and our fans enough for this life-saving donation. We look forward to working with Toyota again in the future.
