While the Drake Hotel only opened its doors for business in 2004, it is only the most recent incarnation of a 115-yearThe Drake history of hotels at that location.

 

Now a trendy boutique hotel / place to be on Queen West, its 19 rooms for let, bars, restaurants and popular spaces have all benefited greatly from a $6 million renovation in 2001 that turned the place from a flop house into a place too cool for house music.

I am officially calling it-We are now in the golden age of bourbon availability in the province of Ontario!

Admittedly I only became a bourbon convert about five years ago, after a pilgrimage to the Mecca of bourbon, Bardstown, Kentucky and their annual Bourbon Festival. While I went to Kentucky more for its accessibility relative to a trip to Scotland, I quickly became smitten by bourbon's hypnotic nose, oily mouth-feel, sweet notes and fantastic price point!
