A Message from the Coordinator...

Hello Everyone!

Assessment Day 2012 is planned for Wednesday, October 10, 2012. This year's Assessment Day includes three activities that will enable us to gain a clear understanding of where our program outcomes and general education outcomes are located in our semester curricula and plan for collection of data to evidence student learning related to the outcomes. Program Coordinators and Deans will receive the templates for these activities via e-mail soon. Assessment Day will begin with a brief unit meeting and then faculty will have the rest of the day to work on the activities. Activities one and two need to be completed and submitted electronically to me (allen-smithb@hocking.edu) on October 10. Activity three should be submitted electronically prior to December 14, 2012.

Activity #1:

Faculty will map program outcomes to the new semester curriculum.

  • Step #1: Faculty will enter their program outcomes across the top of the map.
  • Step #2: Faculty will enter the course number and course name in the first two horizontal columns.
  • Step #3: Faculty will determine where the program outcomes are located in the various courses. The following legend will be used to guide this activity:
    • I-The outcome is presented at an introductory level in the course material. In the course design, there is minimal expectation that the student has prior knowledge in the outcome area.
    • R-The outcome is incorporated and reinforced throughout the course.
    • A-The outcome is assessed in this course and reflected in the annual program assessment report. All outcomes should have at least one course where the outcome is assessed.
  • An example of the PTA Program Outcomes map will be attached to the e-mail for use as a guide.

Activity #2:

Faculty will map general education outcomes (Success Skills) to the new semester curriculum.

  • Step #1: Faculty will note that the Success Skills are listed across the top of the map.
  • An example of the PTA program Success Skill map will be attached to use as a guide.

Activity #3:

Faculty will determine the criteria that will be used to collect assessment evidence in their program. A template that identifies institutionally required criteria is attached. Faculty will add additional criteria. Annual assessment reports found on the assessment website may be used as helpful resources.

Remember:

Data collection for the new criteria will occur during autumn semester 2012 and spring semester 2013. The annual assessment report will be completed autumn semester 2013.

Spring Semester 2013:

Faculty will receive the 2011-2012 annual program assessment report. Completing this report enables faculty to close the assessment loop by analyzing the results of data collected during academic year 2011-2012. This completed report will be due March 11, 2013.

Please know that I am willing and able to help. I will be working closely with the Allied Health faculty on Assessment Day, but can be reached in the Allied Health Office (DVD 309) by contacting Darlene Tipple, extension 6417.
