Perserverance Prevails for Command Sergeant Cambareri
Persevere is exactly what Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Henry P. Cambareri did when it came to his post-secondary education. Forty-six years after he first began his college education, and after nearly 27 years of military service, Cambareri finished his degree.

"The online program [at Hocking College] was a perfect fit for me as I live in Parma, located in Northeast Ohio," Cambareri said. "I found the online program challenging, but rewarding, and I could work at my own pace. The Hocking Military Program allowed me college credits for some of my previous education, military and civilian, and I was able to complete my course of study in a relatively short amount of time."

Shortly after graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps/United States Marine Corps Reserve with a six-year commitment.

After release from active duty at Camp Lejeune North Carolina, he returned home in USMC Reserve status and sought employment. He was hired by the Ohio Bell Telephone Company as a Cable Splicer, and he worked his way up through the ranks of the telephone company (Ohio Bell, Ameritech, SBC and AT&T) to middle management with Ohio-area responsibilities.

"After my six-year commitment was up with the Marines, I enlisted in the United States Army Reserves to continue serving my country," Cambareri said. He stayed with the U.S. Army Reserves for 20 years, 10 months and 16 days. His total military time amounted to 26 years, 10 months and 16 days.

"During my Marine, Army and telephone company career, I took advantage of every educational opportunity available to me. I was fortunate enough to do very well and attained the highest rank possible for an enlisted soldier, Command Sergeant Major," said Cambareri. "I considered it an honor to serve my country during the Vietnam era, Panama, Grenada and the first Gulf war."

Between his graduation from high school and when he left for military active duty in the Marines, he attended Cuyahoga Community College for a very brief time. Forty-six years later, "When I retired from the telephone company, my wife urged me to finish college of some type. My son, Mitchell, is a graduate of Hocking College, so attending Hocking seemed logical for me," Cambareri said.

"I would recommend Hocking to any current military, veteran or military retiree," said Cambareri. "In addition to the course of study being very well planned, I found that the college administration and professors were always available and extremely helpful. I am so impressed with the program that I am going to seek a dual degree."

Industrial Ceramics Engineering Technology Program Featured on Blog

Congratulations to our Industrial Ceramics program, which was recently featured on Ceramic Tech Today: ACerS Ceramic Materials, Applications, & Business Blog, a project of The American Ceramic Society. The blog referred to the Industrial Ceramics program at Hocking as a "gem of a program," and we agree!

You can view the article here on the ACerS website.
