 You're Invited: Logan Campus Open House
All faculty, staff and students are invited to the public open house for the newly expanded Hocking College Logan Campus on September 25 from 5 - 6 p.m.
The open house will highlight the Logan Campus expansion, the new Engineering and Technology Center and the programming that is now available on the Logan campus. The Logan Campus is home to the following programs that were previously housed at the main Hocking College campus: Industrial Ceramics, Construction Management-Carpentry, Construction Management-Electrical, and Architectural and Mechanical Design.
Holl Lab, home of the Industrial Ceramics program, was also relocated from the Nelsonville campus to the new Engineering and Technology Center on the Logan Campus. The new Holl Lab space will be rededicated to Barton S. Holl, former Hocking College Trustee and Logan businessman, at the open house. Holl was Chairman of the Board for Logan Clay Products.
Following the presentation, guided tours of the facility will be given by faculty and current students. Refreshments will also be provided.

Hocking College to Hold 9/11 Memorial Vigil
Hocking College will hold a memorial vigil at 6 p.m. at the new amphitheater outside of Light Hall on September 11 to mark the 11-year anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center towers in New York and the Pentagon.
Dr. Ron Erickson, President of Hocking College, will provide opening remarks and welcome members of the college's military community. The public is invited to attend in addition to Hocking College staff and students.
After the vigil, a meet-and-greet with current and former military members will be held as an opportunity to become familiar with the Country's military on a more personal level.
Currently, members of the military on campus are collecting donations to expand the Staff Sgt. Curtis Oakes Veterans' Memorial Garden. Oakes was a Hocking College graduate who lost his life in combat on November 29, 2010 in Afghanistan. Tables for this cause are located in the Light Dining Hall, Student Center, Library and Natural Resources Building.
Also throughout the day tomorrow, the new ladder fire truck will fly the U.S. flag by the Student Center as a standing memorial and visual reminder of the tragedy.

Allied Health and Nursing Dean Changes Please join us in wishing Sheena Fennell, Dean of Allied Health and Nursing, best of luck in her future endeavors, as her last day with the college was Friday, September 7. The Dean position will be posted shortly to begin the search process.
In the meantime, two interim Deans will manage the programs. Tammy Keith will be the Interim Dean for the Nursing Program. Tammy has been a faculty member in the nursing program for more than 20 years, and recently accepted the role of Associate Dean. Bonnie Allen-Smith will be the interim Dean of Allied Health. Bonnie has a doctorate in nursing, has taught in the nursing program, and is currently our Director of Assessment.

Hocking College Discount Offered for Zipline Course
A Hocking College alum is currently the manager of the newest zipline course, Valley Zip Lines, located at 3465 Duffy Road in Lancaster. The facility features 11 ziplines, rappelling, picnic areas and lakes.
The regular price to zipline is $89.99, but all Hocking College employees and students can get a discount rate of only $30 per person through November. New Location for the ID Office and Helpdesk
The ID office and Helpdesk moved Friday, September 7 to its new location at Light Hall 181. The move was spurred in an effort to design a more functional ID and Helpdesk area. The design offers immediate walkup or phone assistance for ID card creation, password assistance, meal plan information, ticket maintenance and general technical support. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Come to the First Annual Hocking College Homecoming on October 6, from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. and enjoy the FREE, family-friendly event! As part of the Homecoming on October 6, attendees will enjoy a complimentary breakfast buffet and boxed lunch prepared and served by the students in the college's Culinary program. STARS Awards
STARS (Student Team and Academic Recognition System) will be held on October 17, 2012, at 7 p.m. in the Student Center Multiplex, celebrating the achievements for spring and summer quarters 2012. We are now accepting nominations in following areas:
Green Award This award will be given in recognition of outstanding efforts in the area of sustainable, renewable and environmental issues and the education thereof.
"We Are One Hocking" Award This award will be presented in recognition of outstanding efforts in the area of cross-cultural education and or community unification.
Most Outstanding Impact on Campus and Community This award will be presented to recognize a project that made an outstanding impact on campus and or community during the previous quarter.
Please send nominations by e-mail to Giles Lee. Nominations should include the name of the group or person nominated and a description of the project that includes the date that the project took place. Feel free to include photos, video, evaluations and references in the nomination e-mail.

"Mischief" on the Square
The Rocky Community Improvement Fund is hosting a cruise-in car show Saturday, October 6 in Nelsonville Public Square from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Music by Stan the Man will be featured. All proceeds from the car show will go to the Rocky Community Improvement Fund to help local non-profit organizations in Athens County.
In addition to the car show, the movie "Mischief" will be shown on the big screen at 7 p.m. The version being shown is rated PG, so grab a lawn chair and bring your family and friends! The movie was partially filmed in Nelsonville during 1985.

Family Fun at the Pawpaw Festival
Are you looking for something fun to do with your family and friends this weekend? Friday, September 14 through Sunday, September 16 marks the 14th Annual Ohio Pawpaw Festival, located at scenic Lake Snowden, 5900 US Route 50, in Albany, Ohio.
Music, food, contests, art, history, education, sustainable living workshops and activities for kids will take place.
If you are a dog lover, the festival is teaming up with Athens County's Friends of the Shelter Dogs to hold Paws to the Pawpaw on Saturday. Festival attendees may bring their canine companions to dog-friendly activities at the festival on Saturday only.
The festival will be open Friday from 4 p.m. - midnight, Saturday from 10 a.m. - midnight, and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Admission is $8 per day or $12 for a two-day pass or $14 for a three-day pass. Children 12 and under are admitted for free.
