Bridges Selected as New Vice President/Provost

After excellent work by our Search Committee through an extensive nationwide search, I am pleased to announce Dr. Carl Bridges has been selected as the new Hocking College Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs/Provost.

I'm delighted to know that Dr. Bridges will be joining our leadership team.  His unwavering focus on student success, coupled with his strong business acumen and his ability to lead others through difficult change, makes him the ideal choice.  His commitment toward ensuring excellence in both academics and student services will bring Hocking College to an entirely new level of excellence.

Many of you had the opportunity to meet Dr. Bridges during his campus visit on Friday.  For those of you who did not, Dr. Bridges was previously the Senior Vice President of Education/Chief Academic Officer for Empire Education Group, the largest provider of cosmetology education in the United States.  His last two positions have included Vice President of Education for Lincoln Educational Services Corporation, as the Chief Academic Officer for the 37 schools, and Vice President of Academic Affairs for Career Education Corporation.

Additionally, he is familiar with the region, having also served as the Director of Student Affairs/Associate Professor for Ohio University from 1990-95.  During his time at OU, Dr. Bridges was the recipient of the University Professor Excellence in Teaching Award and the Faculty-Staff Contribution Award.  He was also a faculty inductee into the Pi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He has a Doctorate of Education from Northern Illinois University.

Dr. Bridges has expressed his excitement about joining the Hocking College team.  "For me, this is a homecoming having been a faculty member at Ohio University as my first academic position almost 22 years ago.   I have always had the ability to connect with and motivate students, and I know I can do that for our student population.  I believe that we share the same values, to serve our students and the community with quality education.  I have had experiences in a variety of educational arenas, and I look forward to bringing skills, energy, and enthusiasm to Hocking," Bridges commented.

He continued, "I have had the honor of being a student, teacher, Dean, and administrator, and it is important to me that I never forget those experiences so that I am a better leader.    In the spirit of a true learning community, I hope to teach and also be taught by everyone around me.  I look forward to being a part of an educational institution with a great reputation and commitment to success."

Dr. Bridges' first day in the position will be July 16, 2012.

Special thanks to the Provost/Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs search committee for their hard work in vetting the candidates and assisting with soliciting input.  I am also appreciative of everyone in the campus community who took the time to meet the candidates and complete surveys providing valuable input about the next academic leader of Hocking College.
