Where There's a Will, There's An "A"
- Memory is colored by location. Change the places in which you study and this may help your ability to recall material. You may want to try studying different subjects in different locations.
- A change is as good as a rest: Switch from one subject to another in your studying to keep it interesting.
- Establish a routine based on your best time to study. Build study breaks into your routine.

February is Black History Month
- Black History - Click for video highlighting Greater Cincinnati Black History sites
- February was chosen as black history month because it marks the birthdays of two people who had a lasting impact on the social standing of African Americans: Abraham Lincoln and abolitionist Fredrick Douglass.
- Jesse Owens became the first person to win four gold medals for track in one Olympics. He studied at The Ohio State University and his triumph at the 1936 Olympics was enough to make Nazi dictator Adolph Hitler storm out of the stadium.

Your Dining Room
by Sonja Hill-Puckett, Director, Dining Services
Dining Services appreciates all feedback from students who eat in the dining hall on campus. We would also like to update everyone on campus with recent events and new dining services. I began as Director of Dining Services three years ago. In that time, a convenience store, Asian food bar, pasta bar and fruit bar have been added to our operation. We have started to offer a number of low-cost items, including inexpensive subs and pizzas. Our most recent addition has been healthy, low calorie meals. During the last three years, we have had no violations from health department inspections. We have also attempted to give back to our students by sponsoring the Community Dinner at Thanksgiving and providing catering for big events such as STARS and Smart Start at cost. As a dietetic technician, my biggest challenge is to provide students with the food they want to eat, balanced with the food I know is healthy for them. Fast food is not healthy, but it is popular. We sell 20 cases of chicken tenders a day. This is deep fried food, with lots of fat and very unhealthy. My challenge to the students, staff and faculty is to vote with the dollars you spend in the dining room. If the demand for the unhealthy food disappears, we would be more than to happy to replace these items with healthier options. But, you are the customer and we have an obligation to provide you with the food you want. I welcome any feedback on food service at Hocking College. Please feel free to contact me via e-mail at [email protected]. |
