Next Steps in the HLC Report Process
A number of people have inquired about the "next steps" in the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) process. While we will wait for our visiting team's written report before providing details, we'd like to share the next steps in the process, and the short-term actions that Hocking College will be asked to take. The visiting team indicated to us that they would have a draft report in our hands prior to the December holidays. We will have the opportunity to "read for fact only" and provide a response to our team chair. We will then receive a final draft of the report from the Commission at which time we will be able to respond to whether we believe that the report provided a fair representation of our institution.
The team did not provide a conclusion or recommendation prior to leaving campus from their visit. They did however provide both a general overview and a list of issues for which they will be requesting short turn-around. They include: some final policy development, a Board of Trustee self-assessment, and evidence of a cycle placed upon college-wide planning and program review.
We will continue to communicate with the campus community as the report becomes finalized, and the ongoing steps we will take to address the report's findings.

"Memorial Voices" Essay Class Visits Washington D.C.
Hocking instructors Luke Horn and Sue Fletcher recently took their ENGL 152 students, an Advanced Essay Skills class themed "Memorial Voices," to visit memorials and museums in Washington D.C. over the recent Veterans' Day weekend.
They invited three veterans to join the trip: Hocking students Nick Bucnis and Cody Cline, and Dana Delamater, an Air Force veteran now employed with the Veterans' Administration. Dana offered the group a short history of the recently completed Women's Memorial at Arlington Cemetery. Highlights of the trip included several museums, the Vietnam and Korean War Memorials and a visit to Arlington National cemetery to witness the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Admissions Team Sends Thanks for Help in Recruiting Efforts
The entire admissions team sends their thanks and appreciation to the Hocking College community for their help and support this month. In November, we welcomed more than 600 prospective students and their families to the Hocking College campus through Discover Hocking and Hocking Showcase events. Faculty, dining services, grounds and maintenance and a multitude of other staff members provided ongoing assistance to make the campus an inviting place to welcome new students. It takes the work of every one of us to make these visitation days successful! Our next event will be New Student Scheduling and Registration on December 1.
Your help in the recruiting effort this fall is appreciated!
