No More Lines for Overage Checks
Starting winter quarter, students will no longer have to stand in line to pick up their financial aid overage check. Students will now be able to choose whether they would rather have the refund direct deposited or mailed to their address on file.
If a student chooses direct deposit, a notice will be sent to their email as to when then money is available and the amount of the refund. To establish direct deposit, students need to complete an Overage Check Request Form with a voided check attached or a letter from the bank no later than the first day of the quarter. Requests should be returned to the Cashier and Records Office, and must contain the proper documentation.
If the student would rather the check be mailed to their home, they must complete a Overage Check Request Form and return it to the Cashier and Records Office.
Please make your students aware of these changes.

Dual Enrollment Program Offered to High School Students
Hocking College has been responsive to the goals set forth by the Ohio Department of Education and the University System of Ohio in expanding opportunities for high school students to earn college credit in preparation for success after graduation. Different from the Post Secondary Education Option (PSEO), Hocking College's Dual Enrollment model currently serves 13 Ohio school systems. Within the Dual Enrollment model, highly qualified high school teachers serve as the primary course instructors in collaboration with Hocking College faculty providing guidance, consistency, and assurance of quality and rigor. Our dual enrollment model serves both as an incentive for students to enter post-secondary education and to make a successful and seamless transition into college. During the 2010-2011 academic year, 815 students were enrolled in dual enrollment courses.

Kudos to Outstanding Natural Resources Grads
We would like to take time to recognize two outstanding Hocking alumni: Christopher Dodge and Jeremy Cross.
Dodge, a 2006 graduate of Wildlife Management and Forest Management, has started a new position as a state wildlife officer in Ohio. On October 9, 2011 he began active duty in Hocking County. Before becoming a state wildlife officer, Dodge worked at Deer Creek State Park and Deer Creek Wildlife Area of Mount Sterling, Ohio.
"I'm excited about my new assignment," said Dodge, "and I'm looking forward to working with the sportsmen and women of Hocking County." Dodge will be responsible for enforcing wildlife laws on public and private lands and providing assistance to other law enforcement agencies as needed. He will also contact many Ohio sportsmen and women in the field, perform fish and wildlife surveys, advise on nuisance wildlife issues and give presentations on wildlife management, hunter education, trapping and fishing.
Jeremy Cross, a 2002 Ranger Services graduate, was selected on October 17, 2011 as the Wood County parks director in Wood County, West Virginia. Wood County commissioners voted Cross in after a series of interviews. More than 40 people applied for this newly created position. Prior to the appointment, Cross was a park superintendent at Hawks Nest State Park.
The new job will include supervision of all three Wood County parks: Mountwood, Veterans and Fort Boreman Historic Park. Commissioners said he has been previously responsible for a multitude of duties, including personnel supervision, budgeting, fundraising, new projects, recreation and park management.
