Hocking College Designated as a Military Friendly School
Hocking College was recently recognized by G.I. Jobs as a "Military Friendly School" for the 2012 school year. This title, which only 15 percent of America's 7,000 colleges, universities and trade schools earned, means that Hocking College will be showcased in the 2012 G.I. Jobs publications.
The criteria for selection as a Military Friendly School consist of four weighted areas:- 45 percent for Effort 1 defined as certifications, programs and policies, which measures a school's non-financial efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students. This category includes items such as VA-approval to accept the GI Bill, Servicemembers Opportunity College membership, academic credit for CLEP tests and ACE flexible learning programs.
- 35 percent for Effort 2 defined as financial commitment, which measures a school's financial efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students. This includes things like Yellow Ribbon program membership, tuition benefits and percentage of overall recruitment budget allocated to recruiting military students.
- 15 percent for a school's results or success in recruiting military or veteran students. This category includes the number and percentage of military and veteran students enrolled.
- 5 percent allocated to other categories including a school's academic accreditations
Hocking College has a tradition of supporting servicemembers, veterans, and their families that dates back to the early years of the college. As you can see from the criteria above, the concepts require people to put them into motion. At Hocking College, the people always make the difference between a concept and a valued practice. Thanks to all for your support of military and veteran students and their families! |
 Quarters to Semesters Update
Ongoing progress is being made in our efforts to convert Hocking College from a quarter-based to a semester-based academic calendar. All deans have finalized their program curriculum. Anne Polenchar is assisting in reviewing all course inventory sheets to ensure information is correct and coincides with the curriculum sheet. In the meantime, General Studies classes are being entered into the system.
A disclaimer regarding the quarters to semesters conversion will be placed on the program curriculum web pages and their print counterparts. The disclaimer will remind students about the impending Q2S conversion in autumn 2012, and that they will complete one year under quarters and one year under semesters.
