Number One iTop 100n Natural Resources
Community College Week has once again named Hocking College the top Natural Resources and Conservation Associate Degree producer in the country.  According to data collected by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) through the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data Set (IPEDS) completion survey, Hocking College granted 136 Associate Degrees in Natural Resources.  As a basis for comparison, the college in the number two spot granted only 81.  Hocking was also named to the 33 spot in granting Agriculture, Agriculture Operations and Related Sciences degrees.

Fire Figher
Volunteer Firefighter Course Offered
Hocking College School of Public Safety Services will offer a Volunteer Firefighter Basic 36-Hour course evenings and weekends in August 2011.

The course is designed to meet and exceed the certification established in the Ohio Revised Code for volunteer firefighters and a portion of the training and educational standards identified in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001: Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications.

Students interested in attending the course must be at least 18 years of age, and no longer in high school.  Additionally students are required to attend all sessions of the course and pass all written and practical examinations.  Protective clothing that meets the NFPA standards is required.

Orientation for the class will be held on August 2, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. in the Hocking College Public Safety Services building, Room 111. Preregistration is required by July 27, 2011.  For registration information, please contact Larry Hatem at 740.753.6486 or Betty Dalton at 740.753.6451.

HLC Update and Fun Facts
The Hocking College Steering Committee has been actively working with the campus community to collect evidence related to the five criterion components used during the evaluation process.  A draft of the self-study report is in the process of being written and we hope to make it available for your review and comment later this month.  We will submit the final report to HLC in September.

  • Assessment reports from Hocking College's academic programs are available to all constituents on the Assessment office webpage.
  • Problem-based learning is an innovative teaching strategy being utilized by 83 percent of Hocking College faculty.
  • Web CT enhancements are being used by 54 percent of Hocking College faculty

IBO logoKudos for IBO Competition

Great job to Julie Conrad who coordinated last weekend's annual International Bowhunting Organization (IBO) competition on Hocking College campus.  Exceeding 2010 attendance, more than 1,200 shooters attended the three-day event, which was the third leg of the national triple crown.
 
Kudos to Hocking faculty, staff and students who assisted with the competition, including Henry Barrows, Natalie Bowles, Julie Brown, Debra Canter, Kelly Chilcote, Jackie Clark, Jane Dunnington, Suzanne Durst, Tammy Eing, Kellee George, Tricia Hale, Scott Hoobler, Jodie Lewis, Keven Martin, Ron Mash, Randy and Patty Moore, Theresa and Sue Perine, Randy Schwarzenberg, Myriah Short, Mary Vandeman, Nancy Vandeman, Joe Wakeman, Anita Weisenbach and Loretta Whaley.
