Alumnus Awarded Fulbright Grant
Alumnus Ryan Burner, who graduated in 2003 with an Associate Degree in Fish and Wildlife Management, was awarded a Fulbright grant to study Biodiversity Corridors in Indonesian Borneo.
According to their website, the Fulbright Program offers grants to study, teach and conduct research for U.S. citizens to go abroad, and non-U.S. citizens to come to the United States.
After receiving his degree at Hocking, Burner went on to study at the University of Idaho, where he graduated in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in Wildlife Resources. Since graduating, Burner has been conducting fieldwork studying birds and seals in Alaska and Antarctica with U.S. Fish and Wildlife and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
He was awarded the Fulbright Grant to spend 10-12 months in Indonesia where he will study unprotected, threatened, and under- researched corridors between national parks in Kalimantan. Burner is still awaiting the results of whether he was awarded the Critical Language Enhancement Award, which pays for three to four months of critical language training before researching begins. Burner plans to leave for Indonesia sometime between September and November.
Burner conveyed that he was very thankful to his instructors Al LeCount (Retired), Cheryl Mollohan, Dennis Profant, Lloyd Wright, Karen Enterline, Joe Cahill, Dave Swanson, Bill Peneston (Retired), and Ned Maxson for their excellent academic guidance.
