Advanced Energy Student Named Coca-Cola Scholar
Advanced Energy and Fuel Cells student Chad Dillon has been selected as a 2011 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Gold Scholar. Dillon is in his second year at Hocking College.

Dillon's selection as a Coca-Cola Gold Scholar was based on his scores earned in the All-USA Community College Academic Team competition, for which more than 1,600 applications were received this year.

Dillon's name was listed in the April 11, 2011 issue of USA TODAY featuring the Coca-Cola New Century and Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Scholars.  In addition, as a Coca-Cola Gold Scholar, Dillon will be mailed a $1,500 check in August, and receive a custom designed gold-medallion.
Volunteers Needed for Pelotonia Tour Stop on Campus
Pelotonia
The Pelotonia 2011 Tour to Cure Cancer is scheduled for August 20-21 and is currently expected to use the bike path through Campus, with Hocking College serving as a rest/water stop for riders traveling from Columbus to Athens, as we have for the last two years.

Registration for riders is already open, and now people can also register to volunteer. Hocking College has an excellent opportunity to make our campus stand out against the other two educational institutions from where the ride begins and ends. Volunteers with special skills such as massage therapists, physical therapy, nutrition or any of the medical fields, and of course bike mechanics, are always in demand.

Volunteers are needed at all of the venues from Columbus to Athens and between, but be sure to specify that you'd like to work at the Nelsonville/Hocking College stop if you'd like to stick to Campus.  Contact Bill DeWeese at 740.753.6925 or with any questions.
Hocking College Youth Tutoring Program Seeks Help

The Hocking College Youth Tutoring Program currently has paid work-study and volunteer tutoring positions available. They are looking for Hocking College students who are interested in working or volunteering as a youth tutor in a local elementary school or after-school program.

Since the beginning of the school year, Hocking College students have spent over 1,500 hours tutoring local elementary school children in reading and math skills fundamental to their ability to succeed in school, and there is always demand from teachers and after-school program coordinators for more tutors from Hocking College.

Please see the attached flyer and handout for additional information, and to use to spread the word to your students.  If you have any questions about the program, please contact Ben Hastil at 740.753.6519 or hastilb@hocking.edu.
