Congratulations to The Learning Connection
One of Hocking College's "hidden treasures" is the federally-funded Student Support Services (SSS) The Learning Connection (TLC) program, funded under the US Department of Education's TRIO program. The program's director, Dr. Jane Lyons, recently submitted the following report on the program's success in exceeding four main performance objectives over the past year. These statistics really speak for themselves. Congratulations to Dr. Lyons and her wonderful staff!
- Objective 1: Serve 190 students, 66.67 percent of whom are low-income and first-generation college students during the 2009-10 academic year. TLC served 217 students or 114 percent of the objective during the 2009-10 academic year. Of these students, 174 or 80.81 percent were low-income and first-generation college students.
- Objective 2: 70 percent of participants served by the SSS project will persist from 2009-10 to the 2010-11 academic year or graduate and/or transfer from a 2 year to a 4-year institution during the 2009-10 academic year. Out of 217 participants served, 183 or 84.33 percent were retained, graduated, and/or transferred during the 2009-10 academic year.
- Objective 3: 70 percent of all participants served by the SSS project will meet performance levels required to stay in good academic standing at Hocking College. Out of 217 participants served, 200 or 92.16 percent achieved and remained in good academic standing during the 2009-10 academic year.
- Objective 4: 10 percent of 2007-08 New Participants only will graduate with an associate's degree and/or transfer to a four-year institution by 2009-10. Of the 112 students who joined TLC in 2007-08, 37 or 33.03 percent graduated with an associate's degree and/or transferred during the 2009-10 academic year.
