Dr. Roger Buck Selected for Veteran Council
In a recent Pentagon white paper entitled, "Sea of Goodwill, Matching the Donor to the Need," President Barack Obama and Admiral Michael Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, asked the American people to actively collaborate/coordinate and support our military veterans and their families as the veterans return home from war.

To assist in this initiative, the "Ohio Region Veteran Council" was established in October 2010 to activate community groups and organizations in support of military veterans and their families.  Hocking College Interim Director of the Counseling Center, Dr. Roger Buck was invited to participate in this Veteran Council.  Dr. Buck has indicated this council was created for several purposes, including:
  • Helping our communities recognize the hundreds of well-funded government programs not reaching their target audience.
  • Helping to ensure military veterans are informed and connected with these programs.
  • Recognizing that colleges and universities are a prime location for transitioning veterans from military to "civilian" life.
  • Establishing veteran resource centers on college and university campuses.
  • Following the three-component "model of excellence," which includes helping to improve the quality of life for veterans through access to health care, education and employment.
The Ohio Regional Council will meet again in February 2011, and Dr. Buck will continue to bring guidance and direction provided at the meetings back to the Hocking College community.
