IMPORTANT LINKS AND UPDATES
Pagami Creek (Lake One) update link
As we approach another canoeing season, it is important that we keep folks informed about the ongoing process of recovery in the Lake One to Insula Lake area.

Since the Pagami Creek Fire last fall, the Lake One area entry has had, and continues to have changes and  updates regarding conditions, travel and access. In order to keep you informed of this continually  evolving information, we suggest that you follow the link to the  Superior National Forest, (Pagami Creek) website.

The site has a  campsite and portage map that will update frequently as campsites and trails are rehabilitated and reopened (if not already open). We'll keep you posted in the event of any news regarding this area, though I expect it will show up on the website when we hear any news to report.

THE FISHING CORNER
Think Warm!

The early bird gets the worm...or so they say! But when does the worm come out? The answer, of course, is when it's warm. One of the "not so secret" secrets to spring fishing is to find the warm water. Fish, being cold blooded, increase activity with increasing water temperature (within a species span of comfort), and in turn  increase the food requirements. In the spring, along with their spawning rituals, rising water temps activate fish. In the canoe country, to think warm...think north...the north shore, that is. The angle of the sun in the spring is still coming from the equator or just north of it, so south shore areas are often still shady when the north side of a lake gets the warming rays penetrating the water.  Dark bottom (as mentioned in an earlier newsletter) absorbs that heat and in turn activates food (minnows and insects) for bigger fish. So a simple tip for all you early season fisher-folks...find those warn spots and you'll probably find some active fish.

Williams and Hall Newsletter
What's Going On in the North Woods.
This news letter is designed to help keep you current on the issues of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and Quetico Provincial Park, to give you information on Williams and Hall Outfitters, and to share some of our knowledge and love of the outdoors and the wilderness around us.  We hope you enjoy these articles and share them with your friends.

Just Around The Corner!

During the past few weeks, Mother Nature really slapped us with a dose of reality. After the mid 70s of mid-March, we may have even forgotten a little, what spring is really like in the Boundary Waters. Last weekend was a prime example, with a half a foot of snow and lows down to 10 degrees. We live here...we should know better!

Nevertheless, the canoe season is just around the corner and we're excited to see both new and familiar faces. While there are certain things out of our hands (weather, fishing, bugs etc.) we want you to have the best trip possible. If you have questions about setting up a trip or regarding one already in the works, remember to call or e-mail us. Much of the success of your trip comes as a result of good planning and the elimination of surprises. If you're not sure about some aspect of your trip, don't be afraid to ask us. It's better to ask than to assume...most of us know how that saying goes!
If there is something we don't know, we'll do our best to find out for you.

Our annual spring Outfitters meeting yielded no changes to the Boundary Waters permit system and all fees pertaining to camping are unchanged. We were reminded by Customs and Border Protection to make sure our guest returning from Canada to report when returning. Follow the links (Pagami Creek update) for continuing information on the Lake One area. Our annual Quetico Park meeting is this week. Watch for updates as necessary.
Misty Morning
Once again, we're excited to spring ahead into another season. Good Canoeing!
