Why The Boundry Waters?

WHY THE

BOUNDARY WATERS?

For hundreds of years the canoe was the primary method of travel for native Americans, explorers, and settlers. Today it is a significant part of the wilderness experience for leisure travelers, nature lovers, and adventure seekers. Now if you take this canoe and give it 2 million acres to explore, fish, and camp in, you have what is respectfully known as the Boundary Waters. It is unique in all the world. At once the Boundary Waters, are loved, feared, enjoyed, fished with great success, camped in, but always respected.

This area links one of the world's greatest opportunities for wilderness adventure together with one of the world's greatest eras - the days of the mighty Voyageur. Nearly two million acres and over two thousand lakes comprise this amazing location where you can visit areas that have not been touched since the old trappers of a bygone era tread the portages.

Maybe you will find it is just a good place to recharge your batteries.

GREETINGS, SCOUTERS!

We hope this finds all of our friends in the Scouting world well and in great spirits. As you and your Scouts settle into your Fall program and are anxiously engaged in putting your 2012 plan in place, we want to encourage you to consider a Boundary Waters canoe trip as your High Adventure experience for next summer. A Boundary Waters trip is not only exciting, but it is easy to plan, and offers fun and adventure for everyone from the newest scout to the adult leaders. Moreover, the trip is very affordable. They are priced on a par with council summer camps.

A Boundary Waters canoe trip combines all the elements of scouting from the most basic outdoor skills to advanced backcountry navigation to offer wilderness travelers an unforgettable experience. You will arrive at Williams and Hall's lodge and base camp the afternoon before your adventure. We will provide you with a thorough orientation and trip planning session. Then after a great supper, you will have the evening to complete your preparations. The next morning after a good night's sleep and breakfast, you will depart into the wilderness for a 5-8 day expedition.

The trips are totally customizable to whatever the group wants to do. You may even accept some of our recommendations. Rather than grouping you into categories and feeding your crew a tired and often used route, we will help your group plan exactly what you want to do. Then we will provide all the equipment, food, and canoes you may need. It is just that simple. It is truly a world class adventure right in our Midwestern backyard.

As a SPECIAL incentive to act NOW. We are once again offering to honor last year's prices through Tuesday, November 15th. We must have received your deposit and reservation information by midnight on November 15th if you wish to take advantage of this opportunity.

Now is the time you must act to insure your trip for next summer. Over the years we have become the gold standard for Scout high adventure programs across the country. As the weeks go on we will see many choice dates fill up. You need to secure a Boundary Waters permit, which we will do for you. You also need to make a reservation at Williams and Hall's base camp.

How To Set Up A Trip Scout Picture

HOW DO WE SET UP A BOUNDARY WATERS CANOE TRIP?

Well that is a great question.. While planning any high adventure trip requires a good level of attention and thought, a wilderness canoe trip is amazingly, straight forward and much easier than you might imagine to pull off.

It all starts with the date you would like your trip to begin. Next is the date you would like it to end. Finally, you need a commitment as to how many participants you will have in your group. So just three facts is all you need. We will take it from there. This is all you need to get your permit. Wilderness access is regulated by permit and we will help take care of the paperwork.

The next step will be to decide what services you want Williams and Hall to provide and make a reservation. Most of our Scout crews choose one of our complete outfitting packages. This gives you your first night in the lodge, dinner, breakfast, a thorough orientation and route planning experience, all the canoes, gear, food and packs you will need. It makes for a complete, safe, and fun adventure.

With a permit in hand and your reservation with Williams and Hall secured, your toughest job is now at hand. Waiting! There is no soft pedaling this. It is difficult to say the least. Many Troops incorporate lots of preparation and training into their weekly meetings and outings. Activities such as short canoe trips, the swimming merit badge, updateing CPR training, first aid courses, and learning crusty old Voyageur songs in French seem to help pass the time productively.
