SPORT SHOW RECAP
Blayne & Travis in Cincinnati As we take the turn in our long winter, not only are we headed to the end of a lot of very cold weather "Up North," we are also headed toward the end of Sport Shows. Sport Shows are the dread of our fellow outfitters, yet we all recognize them as a meaningful way to introduce lots of people to the opportunities the Boundary Waters represents. The term "Sport Shows" is the generic term we have adapted for any number of consumer oriented trade shows. To a great extent these trade shows have been replaced by the comfort of online shopping. However, the ability to combine gathering vast amounts of information with actually being able to talk to experts about the destinations still proves alluring to many. It is a great way to pass a couple hours if you are an outdoor type. It is also a good time to talk about getting your permit squared away for next summer's trips. We have found a third and more compelling reason to exhibit at the shows, and that is being able to shake hands with many of our old friends that we have gotten to know so well over the years. This is a great time of year to reconnect and get a chance see how everyone is doing. This winter, some of you actually had better winter stories to tell than we did. So far this year we have participated at shows in Nashville, Kansas City, Chicago, Cincinnati, and we will be in Madison, WI (11-13 of March). Thanks to all of you who have stopped and said Hello to us. It has been great fun and we look forward to seeing you "Up North." For anybody in the north central midwest, you will not regret a trip to Canoecopia in Madison, WI. It is a paddler's paradise. To all of you who have braved the elements to drop by and chat, "Thank You". If you can, stop in at the Dane County Convention Center in a couple weeks. |
