FEBRUARY SPECIAL
BWCA PERMITS
.

Monday, January 17th was the BWCAW  permit lottery.  So to those of you unfamiliar with the permit issuing system of the BWCAW, this is a big deal.  It is a great deal for everyone that has been able to apply for permits prior to that date.  The Forest Service takes all the applications that they have on hand and in turn draws them out of the hat.  We have found that basically everyone that is in the Lottery will get their request.  So you can see that to those that are locked in to certain dates for their trips taking advantage of the lottery is a good thing.

Now the great news to those of you who may be considering a trip for this summer and were not able to pin down your dates, there are still a lot of permits available for this summer.  They will be issued on a first come, first serve basis.  So it is important to know that you should move quickly toward deciding on dates and locking in  your permit.  As the weeks go by, you will be forced into greater constraints by days that are full.

Now the Quetico Park has a new reservation system that is much easier.  Their permits are issued 5 months to the day ahead of time and then if there are permits remaining, they are issued on a first come, first serve basis.  Just be sure to stay on top of the 5 month deadline.

Bottom line, there are plenty of permits currently available, do not hesitate to give us a call and secure one for your trip.  We'll help you with any unanswered questions and make the whole process an easy task.

Got Cabin Fever?

    tentwinter in the north

So, your sad! The football season is over! The college basketball tournament isn't coming for a while and you'll never find a golf ball right now! It's just plain COLD outside! White isn't your favorite color right now, either.

If cabin fever is starting to set in on you, now is a great time to start tinkering with your canoe trip gadgets and your fishing gear. This mid-winter activity can be both therapeutic as well as important. That canoe trip will be here sooner than you think and having all your equipment organized and working will save a lot of hassle and scrambling later. "Honey, do you remember where I put the headlamps when we got home from our canoe trip last summer?" "Which one of the air mats was leaking last year?"

We've all been there before. Throwing stuff together at the last minute, not remembering what shape anything was in or what needed fixing. Take this mid-winter "down time" to get it together. Oil that squeaky reel, put that new fishing line on, don't wait 'till that July thunderstorm to remember the hole in your tent that needed to be fixed!

You know where we're going with this. It's that old "ounce of prevention (or maintenance)" thing! So don't just sit there staring out the window, wishing for spring. Take advantage of the spare time, gear up, and remember...open water in the Canoe Country isn't so far away! We're looking forward to seeing you!
