Editor's Note

Colleagues: Greetings and welcome to the September 2011 issue of the NACDEP newsletter. This is my first issue as editor and I want to say that I am very happy to have been asked by my NACDEP peers to take this position. I hope that you will all find each issue of the newsletter to be informative and interesting. Also, be thinking about submitting items of your own to the newsletter in the future. You might find this an important tool in sharing the work you do with others, and in forming partnerships with other readers to combine efforts and increase your effectiveness and impact.

2012 CONFERENCE - Call for Proposals

May 20 - 23, 2012

Park City, Utah

Park City Marriott

THEME: "Capitalizing on Our Assets"

Description: Current global economic challenges have forced public and private sectors to innovate and adapt to an ever-changing environment. This process has been marked by national, state and local level debates on how we utilize our finite resources and plan for the future. The 2012 conference will highlight the role of Extension Community Development professionals in helping address community and economic development issues with a focus on assets within the community capitals framework. Ultimately, the conference provides a forum for Extension educators, scholars, researchers, partners and government officials to explore the breadth of topics related to community development.

The 2012 Conference will feature concurrent sessions along six tracks. We are seeking proposals for educational and research presentations, workshops and posters.

TRACKS

Community capitals have played an influential role guiding Community Development Extension activities for years. This year, the tracks follow the community capitals framework:

  1. Human
  2. Financial
  3. Political
  4. Social & Cultural
  5. Natural
  6. Built

This design lends broad and relevant tracks for proposals and concurrent sessions. It should be noted that proposals with an international perspective are welcome.

TYPES OF SUBMISSIONS

Three types of submissions are being sought:

Presentations

Proposals are for 20 minute oral presentations including 5 minutes for Q&A. Presentations should present an overview of the work, evaluation and the outcomes. Our goal for this conference is to provide opportunities for presentations and learning for the greatest number of attendees. Proposals will be for a single, designated track and you should indicate if you are willing to have the proposal considered for a poster session if not accepted as a presentation.

Workshops

A limited number of opportunities for 90-minute workshops will be offered. We seek workshop proposals that build the skills and knowledge of participants rather than simply longer presentations of projects. Workshop presenters are expected to deliver high quality, interactive workshops with significant learning for attendees. Workshop proposals will be evaluated for content, audience engagement following adult learning principles, and intended learning outcomes for participants.

Posters

The poster session will be held on the opening evening during the Welcome Reception and posters may be able to be displayed throughout the conference. Poster presentations provide authors an opportunity to present their work in an informal, interactive and low stress setting. Posters are ideal for presenting emerging or in process projects, innovative ideas, or research results.

In many ways, this committee represents the heart and soul of the conference for we will select the bulk of the work presented at the conference.
