Most teens have a cell phone, but what some don't realize is that a lot of them have a texting only plan. So, what happens then? Who will they turn to in crisis if they can't call anyone? Through a $45,000 received from the USDHHS and NSPL or SAMHSA/Lifeline, we're hoping to reach more youth on their terms: texting.
We're always trying to find new ways to reach those in need. Over the past 40 years, we've grown from Northwest Michigan Council on Drug and Alcohol Abuse in the 1970s to opening Pete's Place, the only youth shelter of it's kind in Northern Michigan, and now we've received a grant to implement a texting program within our crisis services.
Third Level is one of two Lifeline crisis centers that were awarded this grant which provides supplemental funding and support for the development of SMS/text based services. For the full story, click here.

February is going to be a month of training staff and working through any kinks we encounter. We're going to have our SMS/text services in action after the first of March 2012.
