The Care and Feeding of Partners!

One of the most important things you can do as a bridge player is to keep your partner 'in the game'.  Fussing,
fuming and fighting won't do any good.  Bridge is like any other partnership game.....but in bridge you depend heavier on your partner than in any other sport.

Partner's decisions in bidding, defending and playing directly affect your score.  Keep your partner happy.  The last thing you want partner to be thinking about is the mistake they made on the last hand.  You want them concentrating on the hand they are playing now.  You don't want them second guessing their decisions and worrying about every play they make.  You want them confident and focused.

I can promise you that if you ask your partner 'Why did you do (bid) that?!'  Their answer will never be 'Because I knew it was wrong'.

At the NABC in Louisville in the finals of the premier event, the Vanderbilt, two of the pairs bid a grandslam missing the Ace of the trump suit.  The hand was so difficult to bid both tables of players got to the wrong contract.  Neither pair of players got into an argument.  Both players in each pair knew they could have made a different bid at some point in the auction or at the final contract.

Bridge is fraught with decisions, problems, options and  questions.  You WILL NOT always make the best decision or pick the best option.  Neither will partner.

Be kind.

What's Patty been working on?
Greetings!

Kevin and I didn't do as well as we had hoped to in Louisville and we both came back sick!  We did make it to the third day of the Vanderbilt (the big team game), but it was slim pickings after that!  Oh well, there is always the next time.

For those of you that are interested the write-up on me has been added to the Georgia Bridge Hall of Fame and there is a more complete article on about becoming the Goodwill Member of the Year on the ACBL Home Page  .

I'm working on setting up my fall schedule and getting summer finalized so please be checking with your groups and let me know what your plans are for classes with me this coming Fall.

 Tate at the River

Tate stayed with a friend here at home while we were in Louisville.  He loves her and they have a great time, but even though it's been a week since we got back Tate follows us from room to room and if we get near a door...there he is....waiting to make sure we don't leave him again!

Summer bridge at the Family Life Center (FLC) is set! For those of ya'll unfamiliar with the format, there is bridge available every week for two hours with a short lecture from me to begin with and then supervised play.  This year it will be from May 23rd through August 24th and we've added a second day!  Class days will be Mondays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and Wednesdays from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.   You can pick a day for $75.00 or sign up for both for $100.00 for all summer.  For Whirlwind Bridge notebook users, I'll also be at FLC thirty minutes before these classes to clarify concepts and answer questions.

I am also offering  a 'Learn Bridge in A Day' class on Saturday June 18th and  'Learn Bridge in A Week' class the week of June 13th thru17th.  These are designed to teach the basics of bridge in a short, concise period of time.  If you have any friends that want to learn bridge or brush up on their basics please let them know about these classes.  A more complete description is available on my website (below).

My website is Patty Tucker Home if you'd like to see the schedule of the classes at Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church's Family Life Center.  Classes are available for beginning, intermediate and advanced players.  Check them out.  I'd love to see you!

I need some help from all of you!  A state-wide school championship,co-hosted with the Georgia Tech Bridge Club is taking place on April 23rd on the Tech campus.  A separate game will take place during the event for parents, young players who don't qualify for the championship, Tech students and others.  I'm having a difficult time getting this information out to schools, parents and young students.  Please forward this infomation to any school teachers or administrators you know in Georgia.  I am sure there are some bridge players and programs being held we're not aware of  and we'd like everyone to attend!

Information and the conditions of contest are available on our website Atlanta Junior Bridge .
