Queries, Quips and Quotes

One of the most frequent questions I recieve is 'How do you count your tricks if you have a 4/4 trump fit?'

With a 4/4 fit you should expect that the trumps in the opponents hands will be three in one hand and two in the other hand.  Therefore, when you draw trumps, the opponents will have no trumps left in their hands after three rounds are played.  You and your partner will each have one trump left, which you should plan to take separately.  So if you have AK73 in dummy and Q984 in declarer's hand....you will take the Ace, the King and the Queen (which will pull the opponent's trumps from their hand) and one trump each in dummy and declarer's hand separately.  Voila.....five trump tricks!

Tate

Between my classes, my bridge playing, my husband and my dog Tate I've created quite a busy life!  Tate is a two-year old, 100 lb mix of bloodhound, retriever and rhodesian ridgeback....that thinks he's a lap dog.  That's OK since I treat him like one.  Kevin and I qualified to represent District 7 in the North American Pairs during the Louisville KY NABC in March...so wish us good luck!

My private schedule is pretty full but if you are interested in open, classes available to everyone, please visit my website Patty Tucker Home for the schedule of classes at Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church's Family Life Center.  Classes are available for beginning, intermediate and advanced players.  I'd love to see you!

Atlanta Junior Bridge

Atlanta Junior BridgeAtlanta Junior Bridge teaches children in the greater Atlanta area bridge for free.  Our newest effort is a state-wide school championship which will be co-hosted with the Georgia Tech Bridge Club.  To take place on April 23rd on the Tech campus, we are hoping to draw players from all over the state of Georgia!  A separate game will take place during the event for parents, Tech students and others.  Information and the conditions of contest are available on our website Atlanta Junior Bridge .

Whirlwind Bridge

Whirlwind Bridge
Whirlwind Bridge is a company I created with Melissa Bernhardt to offer workbooks for players who need practice to cement their knowledge.  We started with a series of workbooks for beginning concepts and are in the process of finishing some workbooks for the advancing players.  We are fine-tuning our website Whirlwind Bridge now and you will be able to order workbooks on the website (through Paypal) or with either Melissa or I personally.  Workbooks 1 thru 7 are complete and 8 should be available soon.

I'll keep you posted on news and information as it becomes available.  If you have any questions, ideas or concepts you'd like me to talk about...let me know.  Please pass along this e-mail to anyone you think might be interested!

Have a great week,

Patty
