Zionsville Country KennelGreetings Pet Lovers

Fall is everybody's favorite time of year - including our dogs and cats, I believe.  They are more comfortable with the temperate weather and seem as ready to hunker down in front of a roaring fire as we are.

In between leaf-raking, I want to draw your attention to some of the brand-new goings-on here at Zionsville Country Kennel this month.  We are thrilled to announce the debut of deep-muscle therapy for pets (see details below), a much-anticipated feature that I am sure will be very well received -- by both pet owners and pets themselves.

Meanwhile, you and your pet are invited to our annual "Howl-O-Ween" Halloween party on Oct. 29th.  Details below!

And while you're at it, now is the ideal time to book your pet's boarding arrangements for the fast-approaching holidays.  Don't miss out:  we book up fast!   Call 317-769-6172.

Enjoy the run-up to the holidays; we'll see you soon!

PFRIMMER DEEP-MUSCLE THERAPY DEBUTS

Zionsville Country Kennel is proud to announce the exclusive debut of an important new service:  deep-muscle therapy for pets.

For the first time, your dog or cat can receive the ministrations of a professional deep-muscle therapist for pets -- right on the kennel premises.
This therapy is offered exclusively to Zionsville Country Kennel clients.

As of Oct. 4, 2011, deep-tissue Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapy will be available to any dog or cat that is already on-site and registered for grooming or Kennel Camp.

Call 317-769-6172 to book your pet's appointment.

In honor of our Grand Opening of this service, our special for the month of October is $25 for a deep-muscle therapeutic treatment.

"We see amazing results from Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapy," says Amber Loy-Boston, owner of Cloud Nine Canine/Feline.  "From puppies that gain positive musculature and relaxation for learning and growing, to the elderly canine/feline with hip degeneration and arthritic problems, these animals all benefit to the highest degree from this type of therapy. This therapy has been incredible for temperament and/or physical challenges with so many animals."

Loy-Boston's therapeutic treatments will take place in a dedicated room in the heart of the Kennel.  As with comparable human therapies, the room will evoke a tranquil setting designed to relax your pet and facilitate the deep-muscle therapy that is the hallmark of this kind of treatment.

Zionsville Country Kennel co-owner Deb Douglas mentions that therapy "is a very good alternative for outdoor exercise for older dogs and cats that are boarding, or dogs and cats recovering from a health issue."   Deep-muscle therapy, she adds, "is also an excellent way to end a day of fun n' frolic in Kennel Camp to ensure that your pet doesn't have stiff muscles the next day.  Or to relieve the stress of a groom, or add to a day at the grooming spa for your pet."

In the next edition of our newsletter, we'll spell out the major, specific benefits that deep-muscle therapy produces in pets.

In the meantime, book an appointment (call 317-769-6172) to see for yourself how your pet responds to this beneficial treatment that is rapidly growing in popularity, as pet owners realize that deep-muscle therapy makes for a happier, healthier, and better-behaved animal.

What will your dog be doing during Fall Break, Thanksgiving weekend, or the winter holidays?

Consider giving your dog the one gift that is better than any other -- the gift of training (okay, who are we kidding...the gift is really for you and your family, not the dog!)

Training not only helps your dog become the well-behaved pet you've always wanted, it also improves your dog-handling skills and gives you more peace of mind.

Before you board your pet, talk with a ZCK trainer about training options.  We can customize a package that works for you, your family, and your dog.

Contact Janalee or Sue to schedule a free assessment (email: [email protected], phone 317-769-6172).

One of the more frequent questions we hear is whether we can train an older dog.

And while it is preferable to start shaping and training a young dog, a more mature dog can be taught to do most anything.

It is true that dog's personalities don't change much after puppyhood, but dogs of any age can be taught how to behave in certain situations, and who to look to and respect as their leader.

If your older dog has a difficult time dealing with her environment (such as encounters with other dogs, strangers, being highly distracted, etc.), call a ZCK trainer.

Now that the weather has cooled a bit, you may have noticed how much more energetic your dog is.

And, with fewer daylight hours available to exercise your pet, you may be nearing wits end on how to slow your 4-legged friend.

Since we all know a tired dog is a good dog, Kennel Camp can help to wear him out.

Remember, Kennel Camp is now open at 7:00am...and the first visit is always free.  Call 317-769-6172 or visit our website for more information.

During the 6th session, your dog will be tested against 10 different criteria.

Whether you're interested in future therapy work, or simply want a well-mannered dog, Canine Good Citizen is the final step before advanced obedience, sporting work, or continuation to therapy certification.

"BLESSING OF THE PETS" BIG SUCCESS

63 pets received blessing from priests in local version of nationwide interfaith event

A standing-room-only crowd of 125 people and 63 pets made Zionsville's 24th annual "Blessing of the Pets" event a memorable success.

The October 9th event took place at St. Francis-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church under perfect autumn skies.

Dogs galore, a few cats, hamsters, birds, and a fairy-tale white pony from Morning Dove Therapeutic Riding Center all were blessed by Father Davies Reed and Father Robin Myers.

Sponsored by Zionsville Country Kennel, the event also featured a Frisbee demo (courtesy of Indy Dog n' Disc's Rick Crawford) and a search-and-rescue demo (courtesy of Zionsville Country Kennel's very own Janalee Gallagher).

Also on hand was Phil from The Choosy Pet boutique in Zionsville and Lee Rimer, a pet deep-muscle therapy practitioner who has begun offering her services at the Kennel this month.  And of course puppies from the Boone County Humane Society.  And did we mention that white pony named Lexi from Morning Dove Therapeutic Riding Center?

Three lucky winners won the Kennel's raffle of doggie swag-bags.  Snack treats were on hand for both humans and animals; and every pet received a certificate commemorating the event.

Thanks to all; see you next Fall for the 25th anniversary of Blessing of the Pets!
