Canine Good Citizen Program
First steps towards building more skills!
The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program, which was established by the American Kennel Club to promote responsible dog ownership, is coming to ZCK in January!
A series of 6 classes will be held on consecutive Saturdays to help prepare a dog and handler team for the CGC behavioral evaluation. The evaluation consists of 10 different elements, such as accepting a friendly stranger, sit/down/stay on command, and allowing basic grooming procedures. While CGC is not a certification in itself, it is often the first step towards therapy work, advanced obedience, or sporting work. If you are interested in more details, talk with one of our trainers or visit the AKC website. |

Question: How can I keep my dog's sanity during the busy holiday season?
The holidays bring a flurry of activity, unfamiliar guests and hectic schedules, all of which throw your dog's routine into a tailspin. To minimize fallout, try to keep your dog's schedule as normal as possible, including what he eats and when. Ensure your dog gets plenty of exercise (utilize Kennel Camp, or amp up your daily exercise regimen) to alleviate stress. If your dog isn't overly fond of company, use his crate as a safe retreat. When you consider your dog's needs, you'll both have a happier holiday season! |

Groomer's Corner
Get rid of the stink!
No one likes a stinky dog! With the recent rainy weather and fluctuating temperatures, that just-washed smell can disappear quickly, but at the same time, bathing too frequently may lead to dry and itchy skin (as well as repeated bathroom cleanings).
So, what can you do to keep your dog smelling fresh and clean between baths? Try pet wipes (similar to disposable baby wipes) and spray on pet colognes. If that doesn't do the trick, check with one of our groomers. They have a full line of long-lasting shampoos, conditioners, and colognes. Call 769-6172 to schedule an appointment!
