Zionsville Country KennelGreetings Friends!

One of the hottest summers on record is almost over, and the intense heat had us all heading for the shade and air-conditioned kennels. But summer festivities are still going strong at ZCK while we play host to the Indy Dog and Disc Competition Series! Daisy G, a kennel camp regular, got a little more time under the bright sun with a featured spot on our billboard as you travel south on 1-65, just south of the 1st Lebanon exit. Cooler days can't be too far away as the Zionsville Fall Festival is right around the corner, read more below about our special role in the local parade!

Keep cool,
Jill & David Brattain

Everyone loves a parade....

And maybe your dog will too! We are looking for a large contingent of well-behaved dogs and their owners to walk with us in the Zionsville Fall Festival parade on the morning of September 11.

The approximately 1.5 mile parade walk begins at Zionsville Middle School and ends at Lions Park. You can register at the kennel, or call Jill, Sue, or Janalee for more information: 317-769-6172.
Indy Disc DogDisc Competitions at ZCK!
Come out at play at the Bark Park

Zionsville Country Kennel is very excited to be a host site for Indy Dog and Disc Club league play on August 21, August 28, September 18, and October 02, 2010. League play is a smaller version of a flying disc dog competition. Matches are informal and are a great way for beginners to join with veterans and have fun playing with their dogs. The games and rules change each time to fit the space and players.

No prior experience is necessary and you do not need to be a club member. Registration starts at 10:00am at ZCK Retreat (a.k.a. Bark Park).  Actual league play runs from 10:30-1:30pm. Flying discs will be available to borrow or buy on site...or bring your own. A free clinic follows the match.

Monthly training tips and pointers

Question: Help! I am still dealing with housebreaking issues.

It's time to tighten up potty breaks...consistency and routine is the fastest way to curtail accidents in the house. Be sure to:
  • Leash your dog when it is time to eliminate
  • Exit the house through the same door
  • Go to the same spot in the yard
  • Give a 'go potty' command
  • Reward with a small treat or praise IMMEDIATELY (within 3 seconds) and AFTER (not during) elimination

ZCK trainers are ready to provide housebreaking help if needed and as always, we offer a FREE training consultation. Call us today - 769-6172

Terrier Grooming
Although summer is coming to an end, there is plenty of hot weather ahead. It is still a good time to have your pet bathed or groomed and to brush out loose/shedding coat.
Our groomers always run a monthly special that highlights a favorite product or service at a reduced rate.

Our August Special is a $5 RENEW spa package consisting of a ginger root shampoo and conditioner that provides deep moisture and revitalizes damaged hair.

Earlier this summer, our head groomer, Valerie Woodard, completed the class Hand Stripping and Carding Techniques for Terriers and Sporting Breeds at a Pet Quest seminar in Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky.

Valerie is eager to offer this show-quality technique to her clients as it helps keep the coat healthier and more natural.

Call 769-6172 to schedule an appointment with Valerie!
