Biodynamics and the Drought
We're aware of the great stress the current drought conditions have placed on farmers and gardeners throughout the country. We also know of the great resiliency that biodynamic farms often show under such conditions. We invite you to share your stories, questions, and advice with other biodynamic farmers and gardeners about dealing with the drought. We've set up a new section in our forum to provide a place for discussion, with some initial observations from Foxhollow Farm in Kentucky and JPI in Virginia.
Please note that, with our new commenting feature, you can now respond to various discussion threads in addition to posting. |
Sacred Agriculture Scholarships Available
Scholarships to our 2012 conference are available. Thanks to generous donors, financial assistance with conference registration fees and meals is available to those with financial need through the Biodynamic Scholarship Fund. The first deadline is August 15.
Volunteers help make the conference a success. By volunteering, you can also receive a reduction in the registration fee - and our utmost appreciation!
Would you like to help others attend the conference? We have already received many applications; additional funds will allow us to increase our scholarship recipient pool. You can make a donation online or by sending a check with the note "Scholarship Fund" to the Biodynamic Farming and Gardening Association, P.O. Box 944, East Troy, WI 53120. If you use our online form, please email margaret@biodynamics.com or call Margaret at (262) 649-1749 to let her know that your donation is earmarked for the Scholarship Fund.

How Do You Build a Sacred Relationship with the Land?
In conjunction with our 2012 conference theme, we'd like to hear and share how you build a sacred relationship with your land - whether farm or garden, rural or urban, rented or owned. We're looking for both shorter and longer articles and stories to share with members in the Biodynamics journal.
If you're interested, please email rebecca@biodynamics.com by August 10 to let us know; the final submission deadline will be August 27.
We look forward to hearing from you!

Appeal in Monsanto Patent Case: Update
Earlier this month, 11 prominent law professors and 14 organic, biodynamic, food safety, and consumer nonprofit organizations (including the Biodynamic Association) filed two briefs in support of the plaintiffs, arguing that farmers have the right to protect themselves from being accused of GMO patent infringement by agricultural giant Monsanto. The initial case was dismissed by the district court in February and that dismissal is now pending review by the Court of Appeals. We will continue to support the plaintiffs, which include a number of our farmer members and our sister organization Demeter USA, in this important case. Find out more about the appeal here. |
Join the Directory Community
Who should join? The Directory is a resource for all BDA members to help you find and connect with each other. The more people and organizations who join - whether farmers or gardeners, educators or consumers, young or old, novices or experienced biodynamic practitioners - the better the resource will become.
Why join now? Join the Directory by August 15 to be eligible for a limited edition tote bag and bandana made from 100% hand-picked, Demeter-certified Biodynamic® Pima cotton grown and made in Egypt by the SEKEM initiative, donated by Quantum Culture. (See Official Rules for details.) Not yet a BDA member? You can join today for as little as $20. |
