As you know, the GAO is in the process of conducting a study on the welfare of horses since the closure of the US plants. EWA had a conference call with committee members several months back and we learned that the study was extended to year end vs. the original March date.
EWA has completed our position paper and as soon as it is safely in the hands of the committee and they are no longer accepting information for the study, we will release the paper. We think it's an excellent paper because of input from multiple sources - many of whom are reading this!
I wanted to share one of the graphs we included that John created. It depicts the dollars representing horse slaughter compared to the rest of the horse industry. He originally was creating a standard graph but when you have 3 cents vs. billions, it doesn't show up on the chart! Feel free to use this graph with any of your correspondence. I have also posted it at the top of the horse slaughter page on our website.
If you haven't been to our site lately, please check out our new look - courtesy of the fantastic work of Terry Fitch.
