May 25, 2010
Greetings!
Happy May 25, 2010:

The District Strategic Planning Committee has forwarded to me its recommendation to adopt the SBCCD Strategic Plan 2010-2014. I have accepted this recommendation and the plan has been adopted.  It will be sent to the Board of Trustees as an information item on June 10th.  Work has already begun on implementation of the Strategic Plan and a process is being finalized for maintaining the plan on an annual basis.

I am pleased with this document.  The District strategic goals are fully aligned with the Board's Strategic Directions and the goals of the two colleges.

 District Strategic Plan Highlights
The District Strategic Plan includes twelve strategic goals which align with the Board Imperatives and the goals of the colleges.  These are to:
  1. implement and integrate decision-making, planning, and resource allocation structures and processes that are collaborative, transparent, evidence-based, effective and efficient.
  2. ensure access to and delivery of programs, services, and support that meet the diverse needs of students, prospective students, and the community.
  3. improve student retention, success and persistence across the District.
  4. achieve excellence in teaching and learning at all District sites through professional development and a continuous improvement process.
  5. optimize the development, maintenance, and use of resources in accordance with applicable plans.
  6. provide technology that supports excellence in teaching, learning, and support.
  7. effectively manage enrollment across the District through a dynamic balance of identified needs and available resources.
  8. optimize governance structures and processes throughout the District.
  9. continually develop leaders among all groups.
  10. value diversity and promote inclusiveness among employees, students and the community.
  11. enhance the District's value and image in the community.
  12. forge partnerships with other academic institutions, governmental agencies, and private industry to support the District's and Colleges' missions.

Each of these goals include one or more objectives for how the goal will be accomplished.  We intend to evaluate the plan in 2010-2011 with implementation of any necessary revisions to follow in Fall 2011.  Subsequent full evaluation of the District Strategic Plan will occur triennially beginning in Fall 2013.
