Cruising Along
I have spent considerable time on my bike this summer. In late June, I participated in the seven-day, 470-mile Bicycle Tour of Colorado, riding along some beautiful countryside in Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico. My next adventure was the 120-mile Triple By-Pass bike ride from Evergreen to Avon. Bike trips are a great break from the day-to-day routine, allowing for some needed mind-clearing, and a chance to reflect on how I can grow and improve NFP Partners' business and service offerings to the not-for-profit community.

NFP Partners has enjoyed considerable success over the past three years, including growing sales of Sage MIP Fund Accounting each year amidst a bad economy. We are also having success with our outsourced accounting and CFO services, and have taken positive steps to add value for smaller nonprofits by repositioning our QuickBooks consulting practice.

Supporting the fundraising side of nonprofits has been on the backburner, mostly due to not having had the 'bandwidth' to do it well. This all changed recently when we decided to offer the new Sage Fundraising Online (SFO) product. This product can serve as a stand-alone fundraising capability for nonprofit organizations, or as a powerful supplement to a more traditional donor management system. Committing to SFO raised the legitimate question - should we also offer a more traditional fundraising system? We decided to become authorized to re-sell and support Sage Fundraising 50 (FR50). Many of our Sage MIP accounting clients already use it, along with other nonprofit organizations in our region. FR50, a worthy and more cost-effective alternative to Raiser's Edge, serves as the main fundraising engine and permanent donor database. SFO provides the online presence and outreach that goes far beyond being just a secure payment site

While we are actively seeking someone with real world NPO fundraising experience to permanently join our group as a consultant, Bob Blake will head our fundraising operation, and continue to handle MIP implementations. Bob, an experienced software consultant who knows MIP and FR50 inside and out, is a former head of professional services and training at Sage NPS (the nonprofit solutions business unit in Austin).

Colorado Nonprofit Financial Manager Peer Group

Colorado Nonprofit Financial Manager Peer GroupNew Group is Starting for Nonprofit Finance Professionals!

Jessica Taylor, Finance Director for Colorado Children's Campaign, has organzied a peer group of nonprofit finance directors, controllers, and CFOs, to exchange information and provide mutual support on nonprofit financial accounting and related issues.

NFP Partners is pleased to report that the group recently held its first successful meeting. All members were in agreement that having the opportunity to share their ideas and experiences with colleagues would benefit them professionally, and it would also be a great help to their respective nonprofit organizations. 

The group decided to survey attendees and non-attendees to determine the types of topics for future meetings. Possible topics include nonprofit accounting topics required by FASB 116/117 and Circular A-133, formats for request for proposals, finance committee relationships, audit preparation, cost allocation, insurance, and human resources.
