On March 10th the Senate voted 62-36 to approve a $138 billion bill that would include extending the deadline for cutting Medicare rates by 21.2% until October 1, 2010.  $6 billion was approved for the SGR delay.
 
The remaining $132 billion was approved for the extension of COBRA subsidy assistance, unemployment benefits and additional aid to the states that were due to expire on March 31.
 
The bill now moves to the House for approval.  If the House does not approve the bill, the SGR extension will expire on March 31 with the 21.2% cut effective on April 1.
