Social Security Tax

Congress has passed and President Obama has signed into law the Middle Class Tax Relief and Jobs Creation Act of 2012.

Employees will continue to receive a 2% reduction in Social Security tax withholding for the remainder of 2012. The employee rate is 4.2% of taxable wages. Without this act, the reduction would have expired on March 1st. The Medicare tax rate remains at 1.45%.

Employer Social Security and Medicare taxes remain at 6.2% and 1.45% respectively.

Pennsylvania Unemployment Tax

Unemployment contribution rate notices for 2012 are scheduled to be mailed to employers on February 29th.

If your notice shows a delinquency and your quarterly tax payments have been timely, please notify our office. It is most likely an error and will need to be addressed.
