HAPPY GIRL SCOUT NEW YEAR! October 1, marks the start of a new GS registration year. Over 4,500 girls and 3,200 adults are already officially on the rolls. Congrats! to them for using the ONLINE registration system eBIZ.

NEW JUMP INTO JOURNEYS PATCH PROGRAM Start today! The new JIJ Activity Guides are designed to give you, as an adult volunteer, a taste of specific grade-level Journeys activities. By doing the activities in this Guide with your troop, and earning the Jump into Journeys patch, leaders and girls will have the information and tools needed to decide which Journey to dive into first. The program runs through June 30, 2013. KALEIDOSCOPE 4/26-4/28/2013 - Blaze a New Trail. Yeehaw! Registration opens for Kaleidoscope 2013 on October 16, 2012 online. Kaleidoscope is a special Girl Scout weekend camporee for Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors held every two years. Troops plan and practice outdoor skills all year in preparation for the event. Troops have fun while they tent camp, cook out doors, make new friends, and shop at the trading post. Troops compete and attend workshops in everything from fire-building, lashing, and backpacking, to knot tying, orienteering, and outdoor cooking.

DESTINATIONS are travel experiences that range from 2 days to 3 weeks for Cadettes and older. The 2013 list of Destinations and applications are available on the GSUSA website at: http://www.girlscouts.org/forgirls/travel/. Last year, three girls were chosen from our council to participate in Costa Rica Outdoor Adventure, Juliette Low Camp in St. Louis, and Midwest Madness Outdoor Experience in Wisconsin. ARNAZ PROGRAM CENTER  Were you one of the 5,800 visitors Arnaz had last year?  Have you planned your next camping trip? Visit Arnaz and work on your Journeys or Badges. While you are at Arnaz, you might even get to see "ISI," the doe, one of our local residents. At Arnaz, we will facilitate your troop working on the following:

Skill Building Badges: Outdoors, Adventure, Animals

 

Guided Stargazing and Outdoor Cooking programs are available.

ARCHERY: The archery range is getting a face-lift and the ribbon cutting ceremony of new Archery equipment will be held November 10. Girls can register for Girl Archery program and adult volunteers can earn their Level 1 Certification. www.girlscoutsccc.org/events/

ARNAZ PROGRAM CENTER PROJECT   Like Gardening? Enjoy wildlife? Want to learn more about our environment? Be part of the AGEnCY: Arnaz Girl Scout WildlifE, Conservation and PhenologY Team. You and your troop can be part of an educational series guided by local experts on topics such as rain garden basics, landscaping project planning, native plants and animal identification.
