MISSIONARY MOMENTS
November 28-December 4, 2011
Serving in Senegal as general evangelists, TRAVIS and KIMBERLY FORSYTHE have been sowing Gospel seeds among the Sereer-Sine people since 2006, thanks in part to your participation in CP. Recently they have had opportunity to partner with two Illinois churches to distribute Operation Christmas Child gifts to children. Each time the gifts are distributed, there is a clear presentation of the Gospel to all of the children and adults present. This work, which first started in March 2009, resulted in approximately 5,000 people hearing the truth of Jesus Christ. In April 2010, the Forsythes partnered with other Great Commission Christians in the country to do a cooperative Operation Christmas Chiild distribution, giving gifts to 4,000 children. This effort resulted in hundreds of thousands of Senegalese hearing about the love of God. Ask God to water, and eventually harvest, the Gospel seeds planted in the hearts of these people.

At the port of Indiana as international cargo ships arrive and depart, MARSHAL BUNDREN. North American missionary, reaches out to their crewmembers with the love of Christ. His onboard visits often include Bibles and hygiene packets that are well received. Seeds planted in Indiana spread literally around the globe as these crewmembers return to their home port. Your commitment to reaching people through the Cooperative Program and the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering is all about spreading the Gospel to all people, in all places, in all kinds of ways. Pray for the crewmembers that Marshal encounters, that many of them may come to know Christ. |

TIS' THE REAL MEANING OF THE SEASON!
This time of the year there always seems to never be enough time during the day to get everything done you set out to, or days in the week to complete the project deadline. We have messages to write, plays and cantatas to perform or present, we have family functions almost every weekend to ensure the proper time is spent with everyone that is near and dear to you! But, let me go on record in saying (probably more to myself) that while these are great and good things, let us not forget that while we are trying to meet our goals and deadlines that we stop and reflect on all that God has done for you and your families, and all we get to experience with Him, because the by-product of spending time with God in His greatness is far more meaningful then the time we spend doing our stuff in hopes to meet the deadline!

MENTORING IN LEADERSHIP-
Part Seven
Whether you are a mentor or mentee - We need to recognize our areas of growth:
Paul recognized Timothy's areas of needed growth
If mentoring is "a God-given relationship in which one growing Christian encourages and equips another believer to reach his/her potential as a disciple of Christ," the mentor needs to recognize places where the other person needs to grow. Sometimes this recognition comes through formal meetings and direct questioning, but more often it's discovered in the course of doing life together.
When you read Paul's writings, you find hints about Timothy's struggles. It's as if you've read someone else's email reply without seeing the whole thread, Even if you don't know the details of the situation, you could make an educated guess as to what kind of issues may have prompted the e-mail. In that same way, we can review Paul's writings to Timothy to learn something about Timothy.
For example, what do you surmise from these words from Paul: "Let no one despise your youth" (1 Timothy 4:12)? Timothy may have been in his late 20s to mid-30s when Paul wrote these words, but some believers in the church weren't ready to listen to a man this young. Seemingly, Timothy's perceived youth was a problem. Knowing that Timothy would need to work hard to overcome this obstacle, Paul encouraged him to be an example through his speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity.
Also, Timothy apparently battled "youthful passions" (2 Timothy 2:22). The word translated "passions" here refers to sinful desires, though it's not limited to sexual yearnings. These desires might have included useless arguing and impatience. Again, Paul reminded Timothy that he could counter his youthful desires by intentionally being gentle and patient while pursuing righteousness, faith, love, and peace- traits Paul would model before him. Other writings of Paul suggest that Timothy was a timid person. Paul reminded him that God has not "given us a spirit of fearfulness"(2 Timothy 1:7), and he warned the Corinthians not to create fear in Timothy when he visited their congregation (1 Corinthians 16:10).
Where do you need to grow? Have you let your age convince you that God isn't ready to use you yet? Do you wrestle with lust? Does fear keep you from following God completely? Have recurrent struggles caused you to question God's care? Are other unnamed issues hindering your walk with God? Pray for God to send you a mentor who will recognize your areas of needed growth-and who will love you anyway.

SWBTS CATALYST FOR REVIVAL
Dear Church Leader:
As a church who has offered leadership positions to Southwestern students before through our résumé service, I would like to invite you to partner with us in another capacity. The Revive This Nation Program (RTN) at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary is an historic program aimed at serving Southern Baptists as a catalyst for revival. Since 1959, more than 5,500 students and faculty have spent a week during their spring semester preaching revivals and ministering in more than 4,850 churches. Revival preachers from Southwestern Seminary are eager to go, but we need partner churches to provide opportunities for our students.
What are some of the key features to this program?
Southwestern Seminary recruits churches to hold revival meetings in the spring and pays for the roundtrip transportation of students to these churches.
- The host church provides meals, lodging and local transportation for the preacher while they are on the field.
- Revival meetings generally begin on Sunday morning and end on Wednesday evening, March 11-14, 2012, providing students with five preaching opportunities. Alternative formats for the revival meeting are available if there are circumstances which prevent this schedule.
- The preacher partners with the pastor to engage lost people from the host community in evangelism during the day.
I would like to invite your church to participate in Revive this Nation. You may find more information and complete an application at www.swbts.edu/rtn
If you, or someone you wish to refer to us, need any further information or require any assistance, please contact the Office of Student Services at Southwestern at 817-923-1921, ext. 7300, or by e-mail at rtn@swbts.edu.
